Oracle Senior Director or Director of Software Development (OCI) in Charleston, West Virginia

Job Description

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs cloud services for databases, applications, tools, networks etc. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is a strategic growth area for Oracle. It is a comprehensive Cloud services offering in the enterprise software industry, spanning Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). At the core of OCI is the OCI Data Services portfolio, a set of tier-0 services that powers the data infrastructure for the cloud.

As a Senior Director or Director, you will be a part of multiple teams that own full ownership of a mission-critical services powering OCI cloud. You will define, design, develop, and run tier-0 services. You should be able to understand broad systems interactions, be hands-on, be able to dive deep into any part of the technical stack, and have a good sense of cloud infrastructure, networking and database knowledge. You should value simplicity and impact, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

The ideal candidate will be both technically strong and excellent in people management. You understand operational excellence and know-how to infuse a culture of being proactive within your team. You have the ability to recommend and justify changes to new and suggest improvements in existing products and establish consensus with data-driven approaches.

Responsibilities

As a senior director or director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.

  • Strong background in databases or data analytics or no SQL stores and cloud services is required for this position

  • 10 to 15+ years of experience is required in management, cloud services and data services

  • Lead a strong Engineering team who are responsible for developing and maintaining tier-0 services; quickly build features, detect, debug, and mitigate any production issues

  • Partner with remote, geographically distributed teams and customers effectively and efficiently

  • Be very technically hands-on and own/drive key engineering initiatives and improvements

  • Help drive design and build distributed, scalable, highly available and fault-tolerant software systems

  • Participate in the entire software lifecycle – development, testing, CI and production operations

  • Leverage a plethora of internal tooling at OCI to develop, build, deploy and troubleshoot software

  • Participate in on-call for the service with the team and drive operational success of the cloud service we build

  • Work closely with senior management and architects

  • Build a high performing team by hiring and nurturing top talent

  • Decisive and data driven to ensure uptime of the service

Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
