Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller assists with planning, coordination and management of the daily financial operations with responsibility for all accounting and financial reporting duties. Ensures that all required deadlines are met and reports issued to meet the requirements of accuracy, timeliness, and with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

1) Assists with the preparation of monthly financial statements, including current and comparative analysis. Assists the Controller with supporting detail for variance analyses. Identifies issues with hospital department operations and financial reporting and communicates identified problem areas to appropriate leaders. Ensures that reporting is accurate, timely and communication around the financials is clear.

2) Review sand completes the posting of transactions and journal entries. Assists in the evaluation of existing procedures for recording assets, liabilities and financial transactions. Implements new, revised or modified bookkeeping and accounting procedures when appropriate. Reviews posted entries for accuracy and appropriate accounting practices and compliance. Ensures that all balance sheet reconciliations are prepared and reviewed every month.

3) Assists with the preparation of support for the annual audit and serves as liaison with external auditors. Gathers information and responds to inquiries. Assists with the preparation of all year-end analyses and documentation in support of fiscal year financial results.

4) Assists with the preparation of support for all associated tax returns and other required reports, as example community benefit reporting.

5) Coordinates with accountants to ensure accuracy and efficiency is maintained. Makes effective and logical decisions that are within scope of role. Performs other tasks including special projects, as necessary and assigned.

6) Ensures compliance and reporting requirements are met with all applicable agencies, including internal and external auditors and debt agencies. Prepares appropriate schedules and appropriately answers all questions.

7) Works with the FDM Team to assist in maintaining the general accounting systems. Applies principles of accounting and statistical analysis to maintain daily and monthly records. Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of data and financial information.

8) Responsible for mentorship, professional development, determining functions and annual evaluations of staff members.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business or Financial Management required.

Experience: 5+ years’ related work experience required and supervisory/management experience required

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Strong financial background with comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory, practices and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills/abilities and is detail oriented.

  • Must have excellent business judgment and possess effective analytical and leadership skills.

  • Dept/Unit Specific Skills: Demonstrates excellent Excel skills.

  • Ability to define a complex problem, collect data, establish data, and draw a valid conclusion.

  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
