Lead Laboratory Assistant
This Is What You’ll Do:
Provide supervision in supervisor’s absence over the operational staff in the laboratory’s sample management area.
Offer subject matter expertise in SOP development and project initiatives.
Process, evaluate, and document initial training of sample management tasks for personnel.
Act as a subject matter expertise consultant for staff encountering barriers within completion of tasks.
Assist supervisor in ancillary task (i.e. sample and shipping reconciliation, scheduling, center communication)
Receive and unpack whole blood, plasma and serum samples and paperwork. Resolve discrepancies.
Evaluate specimens for acceptability and processes rejection notices per protocols.
Properly identifies and handles samples requiring laboratory testing.
Accession data into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) as required.
Responsible for the timely and accurate transport of specimens.
Performs specimen processing as required (i.e. centrifugation, aliquoting and volume measure of specimens).
Provide reagent management support to laboratory by:
Supply test reagent and consumables to laboratory testing personnel.
Tracking reagent and raw material inventory receipt, storage and release.
Organize, maintain and manage reagent and raw material storage.
Assist in preparation of samples for shipment to outside laboratories.
Maintain accurate documentation according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
Organize, maintain and manage sample inventory in freezers and refrigerators.
Assist with sample retrieval and disposal as required.
Organize sample shippers for return to donor centers or other recycling.
Prepare biohazardous waste for pick up.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor, manager or director.

This Is What It Takes:
High school diploma or equivalent. College level coursework related to laboratory science preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year laboratory experience performing essential job functions required
Demonstrable skills in basic arithmetic/math, reading and writing.
Must be able to read and interpret work area SOPs, labels and safety signs.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to organize work.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities or schedules for completion of tasks.
