Robert Half Payroll Specialist in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Payroll Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring accurate and efficient processing of payroll while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a commitment to precision, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, review, and accurately enter employee timecards, hours worked, and payroll adjustments into the payroll system.

  • Support weekly payroll processing activities, ensuring timely and consistent delivery of payroll.

  • Verify and calculate overtime, bonuses, and payroll deductions, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements.

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure proper processing of payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR and accounting teams to address payroll-related issues and reconcile discrepancies.

  • Stay updated on federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations to maintain compliance.

  • Assist with payroll reporting, auditing, and year-end activities.

    Requirements

  • Proven experience in payroll administration or a related role.

  • Working knowledge of payroll systems and software, including electronic timesheets.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of payroll processing.

  • Familiarity with applicable payroll laws, tax codes, and regulations.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve discrepancies.

  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.

  • Certification in payroll, such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
