Graduate Electronics Innovation Engineer

Hybrid-Cheltenham.

Salary up to £36K subject to skills & experience, plus a fantastic benefits package including a company bonus!

We are looking for a Graduate Electronics Innovation Engineer to join our Creative Lab team!

Creative Labs is a dynamic, fast paced innovation focused team that prototypes new technologies and delivers concepts for next generation showering experiences. We are looking for a someone who is passionate about ideation, prototype development, testing, validation, and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

About the Role

  • This role offers the opportunity to develop new ideas and insights to lead innovation within Kohler Co. including delivery of technology demonstrators and high-quality proof-of-concepts. Taking an active role in the embedded firmware and hardware design activities within the Creative Labs team, you will support development from a blank sheet or an idea to polished proof-of-concept and beyond!

  • Gain hands on experience with the development of electronics for advanced proof-of-concepts. Making use of schematic capture and PCB layout to deliver embedded hardware, whilst employing embedded firmware development to create prototype consumer products and internal technology demonstrators. Primarily focusing on user interfaces, sensing and control.

  • Support and collaboratively engage with scoping and system identification of new projects. Bringing ideas, innovations, future trends and new opportunities through to next generation concepts.

  • The position reports into the Creative Labs Program Manager and sits within a multi-disciplinary team touching upon functions including mechanical engineering, marketing, approvals, industrial design and external suppliers.

You will be actively contributing to the next generation of products and technologies for Kohler Co. For this you will need to be curious and tenacious individual with a drive to experiment and develop generation showering experiences.

Key requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Mechatronics or equivalent electronics discipline.

  • Highly motivated and self-driven with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong collaboration skills

  • Innovative approach to problem solving.

  • Capable of supporting the delivery of high-quality proof-of-concepts within tight timescales.

  • A good understanding of developing real-time embedded software for a range of microcontroller platforms (Mainly ARM).

  • Experience of schematic capture and PCB layout (OrCAD or Altium preferred).

  • Proficient with Embedded C and object-oriented design (C++/Python).

  • Familiarity with development tools such as: Emulators, debuggers, logic analysers, oscilloscopes, etc.

  • Knowledge of the Linux environment.

  • Experience with defining and interpreting system requirements.

Desirable requirements:

  • Prior relevant electronics industry experience (Firmware or Hardware).

  • Knowledge of: I2C, SPI, UART.

  • Experience using version control.

  • Experience developing on the Linux environment.

  • An appreciation of the design of electro-mechanical products/mechanisms.

  • An understanding of sensing technologies, DSP and control theory.

  • Familiarity with machine learning (PyTorch, Tensorflow etc.).

  • An understanding and working knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy.

  • An understanding of one or more of the following: WiFi (802.11), MQTT, Matter.
