Job Information
Job Summary:
In support of management, the Building Automation Foreman assists the
Building Automation System (BAS) Shop Manager in monitoring the quality,
efficiency, production output, application of skill, and workload of the
BAS Shop staff and contractors. Trains Journeyman Building Automation
Engineers and Building Engineers to monitor, operate and maintain
building automation systems. Recommends improvements to building
automation system reliability and performance. Performs work in
accordance with University standards and procedures for University
building and properties.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for contributing to the planning, scheduling, assigning,
and monitoring BAS staff and contractors\' work to assure timely and
safe performance of the work and for assuring the work is completed
in accordance with industry and University standards.
- Responsible for reviewing BAS staff work in process to identify
opportunities for on-the-spot and cross training, quality of
service, safe working practices, and the efficiency of method and
appropriate use of hand and technical tools, utilizing the BAS
Foreman\'s expertise.
- Assists the BAS Shop Manager in monitoring assigned workload(s).
- Keeps BAS Shop Manager current with issues and impediments to the
progress of work assignments, bringing to light urgent and emergency
priorities.
- Introduces new employees to the work environment. Identifies and
provides training to employees on an ongoing basis.
- Uses computers or CMMS to manage BAS Shop work orders. Ensures
accurate and complete information is entered into the computer
maintenance management system and that all work orders assigned to
the shop are updated to reflect status.
- Maintains inventory of critical equipment and determines when
ordering parts is necessary.
- Carries cellphone, will be expected to take and reply to calls and
service requests. May be required to access campus systems from home
to adjust, troubleshoot or give instructions to the engineer on
duty.
- Wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment. Participates in
University required safety training.
- Undertakes training related to job responsibilities and duties as
deemed necessary by the University and Facilities Services.
- Capable of and may perform all duties of the Building Automation
Engineer.
- Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned.
Competencies:
- Demonstrated proficiency in the Characteristic Duties listed above
as demonstrated by the completion of the University of Chicago
Building Automation System Foreman Qualification Standards, or
documented completion of the following: Microsoft Teams Essential
Training, Leading Effective and Engaging Calls, Siemens Introduction
to Terminal Equipment Controllers, Siemens PXC - Modular Field Panel
and TX-I/O, Siemens Insight Workstation I, Siemens Field Panel and
FLN Operations, JCI Metasys system extended architecture for
Building Engineers, JCI Fundamental Control Strategies, JCI
Introduction to Metasys N2 Controllers, JCI Metasys DX9100
Engineering, Facility Explorer MSTP Field Controller Engineering,
Facility Explorer Supervisory Controllers Engineering/N4
Certification.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents.
- Demonstrated abili y to write routine reports.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English both
orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions relevant to
the position.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
- Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings and
schematics.
Additional Requirements
Education, Experience or Certification:
Education:
- Associate\'s degree or equivalent training in electronic controls,
or related field, required.
Experience:
- Ten years of experience maintaining and operating building
mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Completion of advanced, job-related training and certificate
programs.
- Completion of leadership and/or personnel management training and
certificate programs.
- Previous experience as a Lead or Foreman, and/or two years\'
experience in a similar supervisory role.
- Contract management experience.
- Working knowledge of the use of computerized maintenance management
systems preferred.
