The University of Chicago Press Distribution Center (CDC) is a
state-of-the-art distribution and fulfillment operation, providing a
full range of services to the University of Chicago Press and scholarly
publishers worldwide. Located in the Historic Pullman District near
110th Langley, the CDC is conveniently located near the Metra and the
Bishop Ford Freeway. The facility is two hundred seventy-three thousand
square feet housing nearly twelve million books in inventory, and more

Job Information
Job Summary:
The Customer Service Representative enters customer orders and
investigates customer complaints using the computer system.
Responsibilities:
- Enter orders directly from customers, from both written and
telephone requests.
- Set up new customer accounts on the computer.
- Investigate customer service complaints (written and telephone).
- Interface with warehouse and accounts receivable personnel, as
needed, to effectively complete assigned tasks.
- Perform other tasks as required.
Competencies:
- Manage interpersonal relationships and interact/communicate with
clarity, tact and courtesy with patrons, patients, staff, faculty,
students and others required.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
required.
- Identify priorities; recognize and resolve or refer problems
required.
- Work effectively with supervision and as a part of a team required.
- Ability to use or learn a range of position-related software
applications; strong typing skills and experience on a 10 key adding
machine required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to follow
detailed instructions required.
- Investigating customer service complaints and following detailed
procedures to correct the problems required.
- Interface with various departments as required to effectively
complete assigned tasks required.
Additional Requirements
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalentrequired.
Experience:
- Customer Service experience preferred.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
- Typing skills of at least 25 words per minute and experience on a 10
key adding machine are required.
