About the Department
The Pritzker School of Medicine is one of few medical schools to be
located physically on its University campus, offering both intellectual
and social advantages to students who spend their medical school years
within a vibrant, multidisciplinary intellectual community. Most
importantly the opportunity for collaborative research and study is
outstanding: all divisions of the University and its professional
schools are located within steps of the hospital, as are the extensive
biological and physical sciences research laboratories, thus providing a
rich array of opportunities for our medical students.
Job Summary
The Director of Medical School Education plans, develops, and implements
educational objectives and projects for the undergraduate medical
education/curriculum unit within the Pritzker School of Medicine,
including the analysis of key metrics of school performance, and
develops, implements, and evaluates policies and systems to support
administrative operations of medical school education. The incumbent is
responsible for the direct supervision of 6 FTEs, 3 who supervise
additional FTEs (total of 13 FTEs).
The Director of Medical School Education participates in developing
strategic educational plans for the school. Collaborates with Pritzker
Deans to determine priorities in cross-over programs and projects that
are administered by the staff and identifies and evaluates opportunities
for strategic program growth and enhancement. Oversees program design
and implementation. Develops metrics to measure program performance and
oversees the reports detailing program performance. Develops program
budgets and allocates funds to support programs. Leads 13 professional
staff members to ensure the quality execution of programs, projects, and
responsibilities of Medical School Education. Provides ongoing feedback
on job performance to staff and formally evaluates staff annually.
Coordinates the training of new employees and current employees as they
assume new, revised, or alternative duties. Formulates, along with the
Associate Dean for Medical School Education, the development,
implementation, and evaluation of all information systems projects.
The successful employee will assume a leadership role in the oversight
of medical school education and will operate independently and
creatively to identify challenges, formulate responses, and implement
effective strategies to ensure the excellence of medical school
education administration at the University of Chicago.
Responsibilities
- Provides oversight for several faculty and student committees (i.e.
Academic Promotions, Academic Progress, Disciplinary, Curriculum
Review (CEPC, CRC-1, CRC-2, CRC-3).
- Oversees the development and enhancement of existing technological
systems to support medical education at the Pritzker School of
Medicine. Works closely with senior staff and faculty deans to
ensure technology systems (Canvas, etc.) and support the development
of online student portfolio tracking efforts.
- Leads team that oversees the school\'s longitudinal Scholarship and
Discovery curriculum.
- Oversees the management of the medical school\'s Clinical
Performance Center (CPC). The CPC is a simulated clinic with
outpatient examination rooms, equipped with examining tables and
other clinic-related material, and a web-based audio/video recording
system to monitor the students\' performance in a simulated
doctor-patient relationship in the examination rooms utilizing
standardized patients (SPs).
- Develop processes, policies, and data collection to ensure
maintenance of all education-related LCME standards. evelops
processes for evaluating and analyzing key metrics of students\'
performance (medical school performance, USMLE board score
achievement, professional achievements of graduates). Works closely
with the Education team to provide ongoing evaluation and review of
the Pritzker School of Medicine\'s undergraduate medical education
program.
- Manages the execution of the school\'s registration, enrollment,
grading, and graduation procedures. Creates plans to coordinate
student affairs activities between students and faculty.
- Manages a team of individuals that validate the academic status of
students within the school to ensure proper tuition assessments and
scholarship awards.
- Identifies and implements technological solutions to improve
operating efficiencies and assure veracity of data gathering.
- Performs other related work as needed.
