The team you will be a part of

Whirlpool Corporation is seeking a Managing Director for in house agency WoW Studios. A first of its kind organization, WoW Studios partners directly with the Brand, Digital, and Insights teams at Whirlpool to develop, design, and create brand building marketing activations across the consumer shopping, buying, and owning experience. The role is located in the heart of Chicago in River North at 325 N LaSalle Street.

This role in summary

In this role, you will own and be accountable for the overall operations and management of WoW Studios, driving vision for the future of the organization and designing and implementing best-in-class standards and processes to drive efficient and effective work within the operations, program management, resourcing, studio and production teams responsible for the delivery of creative ideas and assets across campaigns, content, experiences, print, and digital. You will be responsible for developing the structure, process and tools to allow effective management of this work. This will include tools and frameworks for budget, timeline, and asset management as well as project administration and business affairs; clearance, trafficking, agreements, compliance, etc. You will be an essential part of fostering highly integrated solutions at speed to improve customer and ownership experiences for each brand in the NA Whirlpool Corporation portfolio.

A key part of this role is also evolving our production footprint across two locations - one in Benton Harbor and the other on-site at WoW Studios Chicago - to build a world-class, full-service production operation. You will lead a team responsible for infrastructure, equipment and talent for live action, post production and visual effects / motion graphics / animation for film, production design, versioning, retouching and print production for static and digital assets. You will manage utilization and profitability of these facilities as well as evolving and optimizing capabilities to meet business demands. As a member of the Brand Org Leadership Team, you will also be responsible for creating and fostering a high velocity, high impact, and a highly collaborative culture across teams.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Deliver and implement or improve operational best practices to drive an effective and efficient organization that delivers industry-leading creative work

  • Manage team to build SOWs, handle budgets, negotiate costs efficiently with third-party vendors, build PRs, POs and track spend, and effectively communicate to the executive level, partners and stakeholders

  • Understand and implement brand standards and vision, and assist in enforcing these guidelines across all creative platforms

  • Translate requirements from multiple business stakeholders into a prioritized action plans

  • Help prioritize projects with Brand leadership based on impact, objectives, and resources

  • Manage a business affairs practice for managing contracts, talent, clearance &; trafficking

  • Manage a studio practice to deliver on live action, photography, post (edit, vfx, color &; retouching) and print &; packaging production

  • Build effective relationships with internal partners (i.e., Creative, Production, CX, Brand) to ensure creative intent is maintained end-to-end

  • Identify best tools and technologies to support all operations

  • Motivate a large team across cross-functional departments to build better solutions that improve end results

  • Provide regular status reports and capacity plan updates with the broader teams

  • Lead and support Award submissions including Cannes, Effies, CLIO, ADDYs, WARC, et al

  • KPI Categories: Speed in Execution, Full Consumer Decision Journey content coverage, Budget Alignment, Timeline Alignment

Minimum requirements

  • 15+ years experience in creative agency operations and team management

  • BA/BS degree and at least 10+ years’ work experience

  • Experience working on global brands, leading complex process or projects at scale

  • Excellent planning and negotiating skills, coupled with the ability to make decisions quickly and accurately

  • Growth minded problem-solving skills and must negotiate deadlines with stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage stakeholder expectations while simultaneously upholding the vision and standards

  • Strong communication, organizational and people skills with the ability to lead and manage business partners and creative resources

  • Strong relationship management skills; ability to influence at senior and executive management levels internally and externally

  • Knowledge of production agreements/contracts, process/requirements for bidding, negotiating and awarding jobs

Preferred skills and experiences

  • Proven track record of improving cost, quality, cycle time metrics in an agency/creative/production environment

  • Strong knowledge of project management workflow systems

  • Collaborative, generous team player ready to share ideas and willing to build on the ideas of others

  • Ability to quickly grasp new ideas, assess risk and mitigate appropriately and effectively

  • Track record in a managerial and operational role leading strategic, creative, or performance functions

  • Success in managing teams that demonstrate growth (through an increase in number of projects, project revenue, additional services offered, adaptation rates, etc.) and high engagement
