Paper Source and Barnes & Noble are looking for a Junior Graphic Designer to support the Chicago Design team in all aspects of print-focused work. Primary responsibilities include a variety of tasks that are essential to the product development process for original Paper Source designs.

What You Do:

• Supports the design team by preparing production-ready print files across all categories by creating and utilizing templates. This includes providing details such as measurements, pantones, foil swatches, print specifications, dielines etc., as specified by the Art Director.

• Creates and assists in file preparation for proprietary product design, product mock-ups or renderings, packaging design, and occasional marketing or PR requests.

• Assists in maintaining and organizing all in-house created assets through asset management tools.

• Taking approved design concepts and building out various sizes and mechanicals for print executions based on specs provided.

• Create and upkeep digital libraries of assets including print designs, packaging, greeting card imagery, collateral, etc.

• Interacts regularly with Illustrators, Art Directors, Packaging Designer, and other team members as needed for completion of assigned projects.

• Ability to perform under minimal supervision, receiving guidance from Art Directors or designers about the work that needs to be completed.

• Participate in weekly product reviews with design and merchant team.

• Demonstrates exceptional organizational and time management skills that are guided by self-discipline, personal accountability, and partnership; can prioritize and handle multiple projects to meet deadlines while maintaining a professional and positive attitude within a team environment.

Knowledge & Experience:

• Ability to produce independently in a team environment.

• Strong project management, organizational, and time-management skills

• Motivated self-starter, proactive and action-oriented with strong problem-solving skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with willingness and excitement to collaborate.

• Ensures high quality work even on the simplest requests.

• This role will require a minimum of three days onsite.

• The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of related experience in graphic design, prepress, production or equivalent, in-house corporate creative production experience preferred.

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Applications— Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.

• Solid knowledge of print production processes and terminology— file prep, typesetting, bleeds, dielines, CMYK vs RGB, preflight, etc.
