BMO Financial Group Manager, US Accounting Policy in Chicago, Illinois

Ensures high risk/complex accounting transactions are compliant with accounting regulations and financial information is disclosed appropriately in the Bank’s financial statements. Acts as part of the support team advising on accounting guidelines and accounting policy strategies and programs. Supports aspects of accounting management by providing value added ideas, advice and recommendations to improve quality and overall effectiveness. Provides guidance and advice on significant and complex transactions and issues that impact the business.

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders, acting as a trusted accounting advisor to various groups on significant accounting and reporting issues including collaboration on business initiatives/priorities and optimal sequence for execution of business/group strategy.

  • Effectively conducts independent technical accounting research, analysis and assessment to provide insights and recommendations to strategic issues in a timely manner.

  • Monitors new accounting standards and emerging issues and analyzing impacts to policy and standards including development of tailored messaging about accounting policy changes and impacts.

  • Prepares reports on accounting policy matters for senior management and industry and regulatory bodies as appropriate.

  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Supports the development of financial statements and financial disclosure documents to ensure consolidated Bank results meet International Financial Reporting Standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required

  • CPA preferred

  • Typically between 4 - 7 years of relevant experience in CPA firm and/or financial institution

  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency of US GAAP gained through extensive education and business experience; familiarity with IFRS helpful

  • Strong verbal & written communication skills

  • Collaboration & team skills - In-depth.

  • Research, analytical and problem solving skills - In-depth.

  • Influence skills - In-depth.

  • Data driven decision making - In-depth.

Salary:

$72,500.00 - $134,500.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
