The University of Chicago\'s Department of Microbiology in the
Biological Sciences Division is searching for a Research Assistant
Professor, whose primary activities will be to work with faculty
affiliated with the Department to design and conduct research studies
associated with vaccine development for infectious diseases, to
supervise study staff, and to develop manuscripts based on the data
collected.
We especially welcome applicants with expertise in working with BSL-3
associated pathogens, mouse in vivo testing of vaccines and
immunological and microbiological readouts of vaccine efficacy.
This position will work out of both the Howard T. Ricketts Regional
Biocontainment Laboratory on the Argonne National Laboratory campus in
Lemont, IL and the Hyde Park campus in Chicago, IL. The Howard T.
Ricketts Laboratory (HTRL) is a state-of-the- art BSL-3 facility
constructed to support research on bacterial and viral pathogens. The
University of Chicago built the Laboratory with financial support from
the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The HTRL was
commissioned in 2009 and began research operations in early 2010. It is
registered with the US Select Agent Program and its mission is to carry
out cutting-edge translational research on biodefense-related agents as
well as the causative agents of emerging infectious diseases. Research
conducted here is aimed at developing new vaccines and therapeutics for
a variety of diseases including anthrax, plague, brucellosis, spotted
fevers, MRSA, Q-fever, and SARS-CoV-2. The HTRL is also a training site
for training in biosafety and BSL-3 operations.
Applicants must have completed postdoctoral training in microbiology or
a related field prior to the start of employment.
