ADD IF Position is UEI focused.
The University of Chicago Crown Family School is the academic home to
the Urban Education Institute (UEI), an internationally and nationally
renowned institute with the aim of promoting applied research on youth
development and learning in formal and informal settings. UEI conducts
rigorous applied research, trains researchers and practitioners, and
provides research-based tools and resources in schools across the
country.
Job Summary
UChicago Impact is an education non-profit taking on complex problems
and for-profit entities with a small team of internal and external
developers working alongside the best educational researchers in the
world. We offer a casual and collaborative work environment with
flexible hours, as well as a hybrid work environment, paid sick,
vacation, and personal days. You\'ll be working directly with a senior
software engineer and a team of project managers who oversee the
5Essentials, Cultivate, and The Essential 0 - 5 Survey.
We\'re looking for an individual who is a curious self-starter,
demonstrating the ability to independently bring tasks and projects to
completion.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside local and remote team members to advance the quality
of UChicago Impact\'s survey offerings.
- Write clean, consistent, and readable code that can be easily
maintained.
- Actively participate in code reviews.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with supervisors and
colleagues, including researchers at the UChicago Consortium.
- Self-manage and work on more than one project at a time.
- Take pride of ownership in your work; leave code better than you
found it.
- Supports and maintains existing applications. Works with web
developers and responds to requests from users.
- Works with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements for
developmental programs. Receives a moderate level of guidance to
design applications to meet University and business requirements.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related
field.

years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience developing production applications.
- Experience with Linux and working at the command line.
- Experience with Python and JavaScript.
- Experience with Django and/or React is a plus.
Preferred Competencies
- Comfort with Git.
- Ability to collaborate and interact effectively with team members,
following guidelines and best practices and ensuring accountability
for deliverables and outcomes.
- Ability to take multiple complex tasks and break them into smaller
ones, estimating the effort needed to complete them, prioritizing
them appropriately, and ensuring the completion of each task,
meeting the required level of quality.
- Ability to take and provide constructive and helpful input and
feedback on te hnical issues.
- Confidentiality related to sensitive matters such as strategic
initiatives, trade secrets, quiet periods, and scientific
discoveries yet to be put in the public domain.
