Operating through our Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas (as well as a variety of affiliates and subsidiaries), you will be responsible for supporting federal and state income tax audit processes and interacting with taxing authorities to represent and defend HCSC tax positions. Basic function includes exposure analysis to management on issues raised by the IRS and other taxing authorities, working with internal and external parties to defend HCSC (BCBS - IL, OK, NM, MT, OK) tax positions, and providing support to the Tax Planning Manager on ad-hoc projects. This position will also provide tax support for the HCSC consumerism product portfolio, including health reimbursement arrangements, health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts. The position will also assist in the monitoring of HCSC product activity and evolution for potential material changes and the resulting federal tax impacts associated with HCSC's high risk portfolio (individual and small group business). Responsible for training and development of the tax planning accountant(s).

Required Job Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting* 5 years of experience in the field of taxation; strong knowledge of tax law plus experience preparing and reviewing Federal and state income tax returns.* Ability to manage multiple projects.* Excellent verbal and written communications with the ability to effectively articulate complex information to internal and external stakeholders.* Experience researching tax issues, laws, and conducting research using databases. * Knowledge of tax research methodologies, resources, and web based tax research engines.* Experience in the tax audit process.* Ability to build strong working relationships with internal management, staff from various divisions and external vendors.Preferred Job Qualifications: * Experience with in-person interactions with Federal and/or state auditors.* Experience with insurance company taxation.* Knowledge of the health care industry and products; experience with tax issues surrounding employer-provided health benefits.* Strong knowledge of tax code and regulations, and preferred understanding of the Affordable Care Act.* Strong tax research and writing skills.* Ability to train and develop other members of the tax department on the tax controversy and CDHP (HSA's, HCA's) product review processes.* Advanced degree in taxation or law and/or professional certification (ie. MST, CPA)* Supervisory skills.
