UC's annual budget tops $1.65 billion and its endowment totals $1.8 billion. Job Overview The Gross Lab at the University of Cincinnati is seeking to hire a full-time Research Technician. Our lab examines the nature of organismal response to environmental pressures, using the Mexican tetra (Astyanax mexicanus). The successful candidate will primarily facilitate research activities for a National Science Foundation-funded project investigating craniofacial and sensory evolution. In collaboration with the laboratory head, this position involves training in and performing experimentation, training graduate and undergraduate students, maintenance of our live animal colony, and general lab housekeeping duties. Position summary: The primary responsibilities for this position including 'wet lab' research activities as determined by the project needs (40%), training other lab members in experimental tasks (30%), and animal husbandry and lab maintenance tasks (30%). Essential Functions Assist with the coordination of research studies in a particular discipline. Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience. Solve problems using combined research knowledge. Independently works on whole projects/problems. Contribute to the collective team effort. Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. Analyze research results. Organize data search and analysis procedures. Assist in establishing test controls, criteria and research standards. Assist in the design of complex data processing systems to analyze research data. Accomplish assigned results for project/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments. Serve as a seasoned level researcher. May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.). May require experience with specialized software programs.
