City of Clarksville Transportation Shift Supervisor in Clarksville, Tennessee

CLASSSUMMARY: This is the third of six levels in the Transportation series. Incumbents coordinate and monitor the transportation operations of an assigned shift. Responsibilities may include: monitoring activities to ensure buses are on schedule; inspecting vehicles, transit center, bus shelters, and transfer points for proper functioning and cleanliness; performing routine, light vehicle maintenance; providing customer service to transit customers; preparing and delivering bank deposits; and supervising lower level employees. PLEASE NOTE: MUST POSSESS A CLASS B COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE (CDL) WITH A P ENDORSEMENT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION. THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN THROUGH FEBRUARY 15, 2024, OR UNTIL FILLED.

Example of Duties

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES:(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  1. Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  2. Monitors transit schedules, routes, and equipment through field inspection; investigates and reports on schedule and route deficiencies and problems; recommends changes as necessary.
  3. Responds to inquiries or requests for information regarding transportation, route, and/or scheduling policies, procedures. and/or other related information. Resolves problems and/or conflicts that occur.
  4. Performs inspections of vehicles, transit center, bus shelters, and transfer points for proper functioning and cleanliness.
  5. Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records and reports.
  6. Prepares and delivers bank deposits.
  7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Typical Qualifications

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE(positions in this class typically require): High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and two years transit operations experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents ma be subjected to fumes, odors, and extreme temperatures.
