Medical Lab Scientist
Job Description
The Medical Lab Scientist II will be responsible for testing assigned specimens on the evening shift over the weekend. The role involves testing and troubleshooting using instruments and procedures in the department. The candidate will provide support in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects. They will perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), ensuring all quality control requirements are met. This role requires adherence to laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
Responsibilities
Test and troubleshoot utilizing instruments and procedures in the department.
Provide support in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs.
Ensure applicable quality control requirements are met.
Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures.
Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results including STATS or critical results to clients.
Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates if applicable.
Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function.
Make quality control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test.
Escalate problems associated with the proper performance of test procedures appropriately.
Report any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures.
Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting.
Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed by management.
Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
Essential Skills
Certification: MLS ASCP or C (ASCP) certification (required).
Education: Bachelor's degree in one of the Sciences, preferably in Chemistry or Medical Lab Science.
Experience: 1 year of clinical lab experience, preferably in Chemistry but can be generalist.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Chemistry, Laboratory, Clinical Laboratory, CLIA.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Work Environment
This role is based in a clinical lab environment with a very busy lab and increasing volume. There is a 10% shift differential for night shifts and a 10% weekend differential. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $68640.00 - $79040.00/yr.
