Hamilton College Assistant/Associate Director, Donor Engagement in Clinton, New York

Working with the donor engagement team, and under the direction of the Director, Annual Giving, the Assistant/Associate Director will support donor acquisition and retention efforts for the Hamilton Fund, one of the top performing college annual giving programs in the US.

The Assistant/Associate Director will be responsible for supporting donor growth through various initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Coordinating and supporting key donor- and engagement-focused programs

  • Managing a cohort of class committees

  • Actively mobilizing alumni volunteers in peer-to-peer solicitation on behalf of the Hamilton Fund.

The Assistant/Associate Director, Donor Engagement will lead/supervise the Office Assistant, Advancement and a team of student interns.

The position includes:

  • Supporting and helping execute the donor-acquisition and retention strategy aimed at returning the Hamilton Fund to 50% alumni participation;

  • Collaborating with the donor engagement team to build and expand volunteer engagement through peer-to-peer class management for reunion and non-reunion classes, directly managing 10-15 classes;

  • Helping to manage key programs and operations including Give Days, Athletics fundraising, and the Chapel Bell recurring giving program;

  • Using data analytics tools to track, analyze and report on donor growth and development;

  • Directing the student intern program

This is an exempt position with a pay range of $57,459 - $60,000 for an Assistant Director and $61,000 - $63,000 for an Associate Director.

Responsibilities

  • Make solicitation calls to prospective Hamilton Fund donors. The successful candidate must be comfortable asking for money.

  • Lead and support key program execution and operations (40% of time allocation):

  • Give Days utilizing Give Campus

  • Athletics Fundraising

  • Chapel Bell Recurring Giving Society

  • Volunteer and class management (40% of time allocation):

  • Collaborate across Donor Engagement to build and manage the class committee volunteer program, enrolling, training and directing class committee volunteers

  • Work with Hamilton Fund and Alumni Council volunteers

  • Utilize/execute the Give Campus volunteer platform

  • Staff management and development (20% of time allocation):

  • Supervise and develop the Office Assistant, Advancement and team of student interns in their work executing the donor strategy and retention.

  • Other duties as may be assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree; master’s desirable.

  • Demonstrated direct fund-raising, political campaign or constituent management and/or sales experience, including program management, or comparable experience in a business, nonprofit or related setting.

  • Demonstrated results-orientation and a strategic, problem-solving approach to challenges

  • Proven track record of effectively managing and developing people

  • Ability to work with colleagues effectively and demonstrate a collaborative approach to one’s work

  • Experience developing strategic and tactical program plans

  • Experience devising and managing fund-raising or similar sales programs

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions

  • Strong oral and written communications skills

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, paying close attention to detail while meeting deadlines

  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google suite required

  • Capacity to master new software, especially the GiveCampus VMS platform and the ascend or similar Salesforce-based Advancement database

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a collaborative team environment

  • Ability to work well within a fast-paced, high-volume environment

  • Commitment to personal growth and development is highly desirable

  • Disposition to take initiative and be a self-starter
