TheCertified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)works under the
direction of an Occupational Therapist to administer therapy treatments
and procedures to help patients recover, develop or improve skills
needed for daily living and working.
JOB DUTIES:
- Collect, assess and record required patient information such as
medical history
- Implement treatment plans and help patients perform therapeutic
activities
- Instruct patients and their families in the skills and techniques of
a treatment program
- Monitor patients performance and provide encouragement
- Document patient progress, attitudes and behavior
- Maintain accurate patient treatment records
- Maintain the work area and equipment; order supplies
- Attend meetings to review treatments and patient progress
- Maintain professional knowledge and technical progress to provide
best treatments available
- Comply with federal, state and local certification requirements
- Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and
company policy
TheCertified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)assumes other
responsibilities as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Analytical ability to apply criteria and evaluate information to
make decisions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent
interpersonal skills in teaming with patients, medical staff and the
public
- Detail oriented with proven ability to multitask
- Professional appearance and ease in developing rapport with others
- Accurate clinical assessment skills regarding patient medical
conditions
- Ability and willingness to accurately and appropriately document
patient care notes in a timely manner in accordance with billing and
regulatory requirements
- Computer skills including MSOffice, Outlook, Meditech
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant degree
program certified by Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy
Education (ACOTE) or American Occupational Therapy Association
(AOTA), required
- Current Kansas Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
Certification, required
- Current BLS Certification, required
- 1-2 years experience in an acute or clinical setting, preferred
