GSK has an immediate opening for a Senior Scientist for mass spectrometry and protein characterization in Collegeville, PA.  The candidate will primarily be responsible for conducting mass spec-based experiments (e.g. LC-MS and LC-MS/MS) for the characterization of therapeutic proteins.  The candidate may be expected to develop other analytical and/or biochemical methods to further understand the structure-function relationship of proteins, while supporting biopharmaceutical development from FTIH through commercial.

The mass spec group is well equipped with modern instrumentation including Thermo Eclipse Tribrid, Thermo Exploris 480, Thermo Exploris 240, Thermo Exploris MX, Thermo Fusion Tribrid, Waters Synapt G2-S, Waters Xevo G2-XS, Agilent 6490 QQQ, ZipChip, Nano-LC, UHPLC and many other supporting instrumentation and associated data analysis software packages.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

B.S. with 4+ years of experience or M.S. with at least 2 years of experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry

Working knowledge of protein and carbohydrate structures

Experience with operating and maintaining mass spectrometers and UHPLC instruments

Experience with software tools for processing protein mass spectrometry data

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have any of the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

Experience in protein characterization using mass spectrometry, including top-down/middle-down and bottom-up LC-MS approaches

Experience with biopharmaceuticals and their process development

Knowledge of GxP requirements

Experience in various separation techniques such as CE, SEC, IEX and HPLC/UHPLC

Experience with small molecule structure elucidation

Good technical writing skills for documentation, experience in regulatory documentation authoring

Experience with proteomics or metabolomics

Experience with oligonucleotide analysis

Experience with quantitative assay development

Ability to collaborate and communicate well with others in and across matrix teams

Thorough operational knowledge of laboratory equipment and laboratory systems

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
