Job Title: Data Scientist

Job Description

We are seeking a Data Scientist to support a defense contractor in Columbus, OH. The selected individual will provide mathematical models and graphical analysis to a government customer, collaborating closely with a team of software developers and other scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for a small team of data scientists in executing an annual quantitative risk assessment for CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives) terrorism attacks against the U.S. using existing software models and architecture.

  • Determine and implement improvements and maintenance activities to enhance the efficiency of the existing risk execution system/software.

  • Maintain detailed internal-facing documentation on the execution process and high-level client-facing documentation for risk analysis/results.

  • Present risk results and modeling/data updates on an annual basis to clients and other external stakeholders.

  • Monitor task completion and communicate progress to the client during weekly teleconferences.

  • Write annual reports detailing the methods used and results obtained.

Essential Skills

  • Data science, modeling and simulation, modeling analysis.

  • Eligible for Secret or Top Secret Clearance.

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience, or Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or other scientific fields.

  • Strong understanding of higher-level mathematics (e.g., calculus, differential equations, linear algebra).

  • At least one year of experience with project management or task leadership with a proven ability to meet project deadlines on schedule and within budget.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for scientific and technical data to non-technical and semi-technical audiences.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in modeling & simulation, statistical analysis, quantitative risk assessment, data science, systems engineering, or related field.

  • Knowledge of advanced statistics and/or probability.

  • Experience with data visualization techniques.

  • Experience in modeling & simulation on a government program.

  • Experience using object-oriented programming in C++, C#, Java, or similar to develop mathematical models.

  • Experience with advanced data analysis techniques, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, or natural language processing.

Work Environment

The position offers a hybrid work environment with in-office work from Tuesday to Thursday and remote work on Monday and Friday. Employees can choose between a 9/80 schedule, allowing every other Friday off, or a standard 40-hour Monday to Friday workweek. The team consists of 40+ data scientists and software engineers with various STEM backgrounds, including a smaller subset team led by a Ph.D. data scientist with 10 years of experience. The new Data Scientist will be the fourth member, joining 2 software engineers and 2 other data scientists.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
