About the Opportunity
This is an open position with Ohio Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [OE].
This is a mobile (remote) position. The selected candidate must be located within the FirstEnergy footprint within the State of Ohio.
Responsibilities include:
* Working safely in a variety of electric utility settings and following all Accident Prevention Handbook (APH) work practices.
* Demonstrating a solid commitment to all aspects of safety, with maturity to exercise independent judgment on complex projects and assignments.
* Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations and requirements.
* Providing a high level of service, continuous support, and proactive involvement regarding technical subject matter to leadership and peers.
* Using standard planning and protection tools, including CYME, Load Forecasting Data Management System (LFDMS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Viewer, PI ProcessBook, SEL AcSELerator, and Energy Management System.
* Power system planning and analysis to study impact of new customers, generators, or electrification trends.
* Performing protective device coordination studies and develop relay settings.
* Providing various support functions for smart grid programs and initiatives, such as GridMod II in Ohio.
* Creating projects and detailed scopes for future capital infrastructure investment.
* Providing prompt technical support and analysis to the Distribution Control Center (DCC) for planned and emergency load shifts, mobile substation installations, and troubleshooting for miscoordinations or misoperations.
* Supporting storm response as a hazard dispatcher, hazard responder, or as assigned.
* Working overtime to support storm efforts or other special projects as business needs require.
Qualifications:
* Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
* Understanding of electrical engineering and utility power system concepts with ability to learn new complex electrical topics quickly.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on understandable and clear technical writing and presentation skills.
* Possess strong knowledge, maturity, and decision-making skills regarding electrical problems and analyzing complex information.
* Detail-oriented, accurate, and able to understand and interpret complex technical information.
* Solid computer skills with competency in Microsoft Office products (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), along with a working knowledge of CAD and GIS software systems.
