Refractory Design Engineer

Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide. We are seeking a Refractory Design Engineer in our Columbus, Ohio location. This position will provide engineering support for the Allied Sales organization; both domestic and international. This will include preparation of quotations and proposals using design analysis, methodology assessment, engineering calculations, thermal analysis, drawings, bills of materials, and technical reports.

Key Duties:

  • Promote a team effort in development of, and compliance with, Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Maintain personal knowledge and proficiency in application of current departmental and industry design procedures and software applications by participating in project work and communicating with software suppliers and user groups.

  • Calculate volume estimates to determine material requirements. Prepare quotations, drawings, thermal analysis, bills of materials, and other engineering related documents that involve details of engineering, installation, and refractory lining designs. This work is done in conjunction with the field sales force, product services and our distributors to aid in the technical promotion of our products and for presentation to existing and potential customers.

  • Prepare graphic documents for Engineering presentations for inside seminars, meetings, Sales Conferences and for outside presentation of Engineering proposals.

  • Participate in procurement and coordination of sub-contractors to provide fabrication services, demolition services, labor and equipment for installation and dry out / heat up services.

  • Manage the coordination of project timing by communicating with sales, customer service and the contractor.

  • Attend field sales calls, meetings, technical presentations, and installations as required to assist the Sales Department and to promote Allied and Allied products. (Some out of town, out of state overnight and international travel may be required.)

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering (mechanical, civil or aerospace) or other similar technical field is preferred, or an Associate of Science degree in an engineering field will be considered with appropriate coursework and experience.

  • At least three years of related work experience.

  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with spread sheet formats along with 3D solid modeling and 2D CAD drafting and design experience is required.

  • Experience with high temperature industrial processing equipment preferred.

  • Knowledge of heat transfer principles and experience with heat flow analysis software is a plus.

  • Excellent math skills.

  • Ability to read and understand detailed drawings.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Willingness to travel as needed (approximately 4 -6 times per year; 2-4 days each).
