Position Overview

The Kiewit Power Delivery Senior Estimator is a career-level professional focused on accurately estimating the cost of bid build projects in the power delivery market. The Senior Estimator may work as an individual or lead a team of estimators to develop the cost to complete project scope. This position understands and owns the estimate throughout the process while following Kiewit estimating standards. The Senior Estimator is expected to estimate work at the lowest probable costs by engaging with regional leadership to determine construction means and methods, develop effective build strategies while utilizing other departments as resources such as scheduling, procurement, etc. The Senior Estimator has the opportunity to learn and understand other roles of Kiewit’s Power Delivery business to continue career development and to support the development of entry-level/early career estimators. The Senior Estimator will present estimates to the executive leadership team in Kiewit Power Delivery during estimate reviews. The Kiewit Power Delivery Midwest Region Senior Estimator is expected to work in a hybrid setting partially in Kiewit’s Lenexa, Kansas Power Headquarters and partially from home. #LI-WJ1

Location

This position is based out of our regional office located in New Albany, Ohio. Must be local to the area or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Follows company standards and processes to develop complete and accurate bid-build estimates for the Region

• Trains and mentors others in the preparation of Estimates. Reviews estimates prepared by other estimators or partners as required.

• Reads and interpret Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, construction drawings, and specifications to understand the scope of the project and ensure the Estimate/Proposal satisfies RFP obligations

• Coordinates and facilitates project meetings

• Collaborates with the Estimating Team and Regional Sponsors on means and methods, value-added concepts, and build a strategy

• Develops Project schedule

• Completes and/or compiles all material takeoffs for the estimate

• Ensures all Subcontracts and Permanent Material quotes are issued and coordinated to ensure the Scope of work is clear and pricing is accurate.

• Establishes Labor wages and unit rates for tasks

• Develops Staff and Equipment schedules as well as other indirect costs associated with the project.

• Ensures all costs are accurately entered into the estimating program (Ineight Estimate)

• Identifies Risks as well as Mitigation techniques

• Develops and reviews comparisons with past projects

• Prepares estimate review books and assists in providing Proposal information and documentation.

• Travel to project sites to collect data, as required

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or construction-related technology, OR extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above

• At least 7 years’ experience in a related role

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications

• Knowledge and understanding of construction means/methods

• Strong attention to detail; strong communication, interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills

• Excellent negotiation skills

• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

• Developed organizational and time management skills

• Strong written and verbal communications skills

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

• Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.

Base Compensation: $89,706 - $134,560

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
