Specialty Technology & Research Inc. Technical Manager in Columbus, Ohio

Specialty Technology & Research Inc. (STAR) is seeking a Technical Manager for its Columbus, Ohio location.  STAR is one of the largest manufacturers of sealcoatings and a comprehensive range of products that are used the pavement maintenance industry. Sealcoatings are specialty coatings that have been used in the U.S. since late 1950's for the protection and preservation of asphalt surfaces; commercial parking lots, home driveways, schools, airports, gas stations, fast food restaurants, etc.

Job duties include:

Oversee technical projects from conception to completion. Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful delivery within established timelines and budgets.

Demonstrate products and, provide technical support and advice to customers in helping them make informed decisions.

Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to evaluate products, negotiate contracts, and ensure the delivery of quality goods and services.

Develop technical documentation, including specifications, data sheets, application guidelines, and safety information.

Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and industry events to promote products and generate leads.

Develop and implement the organization's technical strategy in alignment with overall business goals.

Identify opportunities for technological advancements and improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Establish and enforce technical standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes to ensure the delivery of high-quality products or services.

Promote research and development initiatives through new products, technologies, and processes to foster innovation and maintain a competitive edge in the market.

Prepare and deliver technical presentations and reports to senior management or stakeholders, communicating complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Address technical challenges and issues that arise during projects or manufacturing plant operations, implementing effective solutions promptly.

Drive innovation by implementing new ideas, and screen new technologies.

Must have a Master's degree in Polymer Chemistry or related field and at least 5 years' experience in the coatings industry. Required experience must include at least 5 years in the following specific areas:

Preparing and delivering technical presentations and reports to senior management or stakeholders, communicating complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Addressing technical challenges and issues that arise during projects or manufacturing plant operations, implementing effective solutions promptly.

Driving innovation by implementing new ideas, and screening new technologies.

Developing coatings formulations, performance characteristics, testing methodologies, application conditions, and understanding to identify and address the technical hurdles therein.

Understanding manufacturing process and protocols. Working with raw material suppliers and having a good grasp on how raw material cost affects bottom line.

Supporting the modification/maintenance of existing product lines and new product development across all segments.  

Developing new test methods that will have an impact in acceleration of coating results.

Simulating customer line conditions to increase the rate of products launch.

5% domestic travel to trade shows, conferences, or industry events.
