FIRE TRAINING INSTRUCTOR

(Fire Service Instructor Supervisor)

This pay range for this position is $24.90 - $33.47 per hour

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Services, has a full-time vacancy for a Fire Service Instructor Supervisor, SOC Title 13-1150 TRNG AND DVLP SPECS-5. This position has a 40-hour work week and is non-exempt.

SUMMARY:Coordinates and supervises fire service training programs while overseeing students and instructors within those programs.

18 Months or 1.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

36 Months or 3 Years of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree

54 Months or 4.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Master's degree

Education:Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with major study in fire protection, fire science, emergency services, public health, education, management, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience:Seven years of experience in firefighting and/or in planning and conducting professional fire and emergency services training and education programs within a fire department, state fire agency, or district fire mutual aid system, three years of which shall have been at a supervisory level. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification:Must possess a valid driver's license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.Must be certified as a Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I.

2.Must be certified to the level of Firefighter II or equivalent.

3.Must be certified to the level of Fire and Emergency Services Instructor II and III within one year of employment. A time extension may be granted for this special requirement by the Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Services if justified based on the availability of the required certification program.

4.Must be licensed as an EMT or higher.

5.Must be available on nights and weekends to attend meetings, training programs and examinations.

6.Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provides instruction in cognitive and psychomotor classes, demonstrates skills andcoachesstudent skills performance in compliance approved fire and emergency medical service curriculums.

Evaluates student knowledge and skills and provides through established assessments by providing necessary feedback to the students. Initiates disciplinary and/or corrective action to students who are not able to meet the training standard.

Coordinates training programs including, but not limited to, the evaluation of training sites, the scheduling of classrooms, props and equipment, the selection of instructors, and the completion of required course paperwork.

Oversees the delivery of assigned trainingprograms, andensures each training program is following the approved curriculum and meeting all of the required cognitive and psychomotor objectives.

Prepares, maintains, and either performs or coordinates repair of fire training equipment, fixed and m bile props, and burn buildings.

Develops and delivers training programs for fire training props and apparatus to instructors and operators, ensuring that training is conducted within the prescribed guidelines.

Recommends and initiates program changes based on current delivery practices and feedback. Continuously evaluates training programs and revises work methods to enhance training throughout the State.

Supervises the work performance of instructors to include recommending and issuing discipline to employees assigned to training programs. Evaluates the performance of students and issues corrective action as appropriate.
