Position: Mechanic
Duties:
Inspects and analyzes equipment to detect mechanical problems; determines
corrective action; services and repairs numerous types of vehicles and
equipment. Responds to emergency road calls of City vehicles and equipment.
Checks with equipment supervisor on repair or replacement of major components
for vehicles and equipment.
Performs a variety of skilled tasks to include welding and fabricating
equipment. Operates different welding equipment used for repair of parts.
Fabricates items for various City departments.
Repairs and maintains employers vehicles and equipment, i.e.; transmission
repairs, trans-axle, both manual and automatic, clutch installations,
brake relining and engine overhauling. Performs complex electric and hydraulic
repairs. Maintains street sweepers, refuse trucks, dozers, and other
related equipment and vehicles.
Services vehicles and equipment by changing oil, rotating tires, and
checking for any other damage. Performs the scheduled preventative maintenance
on all fleet vehicles.
Orders and picks up parts.
Performs any duties necessary to maintain a clean, orderly working
environment in the shop area.
Maintains various departmental records and logs.
Installs emergency response equipment on Police Department patrol and
detective vehicles such as light-bars, police band radios, switch
centers, p.a. systems, prisoner security partitions, and locking gun
mount racks. Installs and maintains special equipment on other vehicles.
Performs computer diagnostics on all vehicles with on-board computers.
Skills:
Must have knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and
equipment of the automotive trade and gasoline and diesel engines. Be skilled
in the use and care of hand and machine tools, equipment and hydraulics
maintenance, acetylene and arc welding and automotive electronics.
Other Requirements:
Have at least three years experience in auto/truck mechanics.
Have own mechanics tools, shop provides diagnostic equipment. Have auto,
diesel, mechanic, hydraulic, welder and electrical equipment. .
Be 18 years of age or older due to company's insurance
Possess valid Colorado driver's license (CDL Type B), or the ability
to obtain the CDL type B within 6 months of hire.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Wage: $19.18-$31.07
Shift: Full time permanent position Monday thru Friday 40 hours per
week.
Site Location: Cortez, CO
