POSITION: Police Officer
DUTIES: Patrols City to detect/prevent illegal and criminal activities.
Apprehends criminals and offenders; enforces laws and shows police presence
in a manner that contributes towards preventing law violations. This includes
conducting pedestrian and traffic contacts, and security checks on businesses.
Responds to and investigates calls for services involving accidents,
disturbances, thefts, etc. Interviews witnesses and victims, makes
arrests. Conducts follow up work on police cases.
Prepares appropriate reports. Makes sure all reports are complete and
correct, which is to include all required paperwork. Turns in completed
reports in a timely manner.
Is always prepared to testify in court. Knows what he/she needs to know to
win in court. Shows confidence when testifying. Sells him/herself to the
jury or judge. Is always truthful.
Provides assistance to various other departments and agencies as well as other
officers when needed.
Presents a neat and professional appearance at all times. Patrol vehicle is
clean and has all the necessary equipment, shotgun is clean and in good
working order.
Promotes the department's goals and objectives. Is enthusiastic about doing
the job, a good worker.
Promotes community policing concepts and takes an active part in presenting
various programs to the citizens of the community. Is courteous to the public
and acts in a professional manner.
Participates in the program generated from the Cooper Fitness Program to
achieve completion of fitness tests.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS REQUIRED: Must be certified in Intoxilizer, Radar, Nystagmus,
pepper spray and PPCT.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to communicate with others both orally and in
written form. Ability to work under stress and to cope with the stress of
shift work and hours of uneventful patrolling. Must be a certified Colorado
Police Officer or eligible for certification. Must have a valid Colorado
driver's license. Must be First Aid and CPR certified. Radar, Nystagmus,
pepper spray and PPCT. Be in good physical condition. Must not have had any
felony convictions. Must have a two year degree or more from an accredited
college or university in the criminal justice or related field or A high
school education or equivalent plus law enforcement training sufficient for
certification.
