Overview: As a Diesel Mechanic specializing in buses, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our bus fleet. You will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related components in buses to keep them operational and in compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  1. Routine Maintenance:

    • Perform scheduled maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrications.
    • Inspect and maintain brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and other critical components.
    • Conduct preventative maintenance to avoid unexpected breakdowns and extend vehicle lifespan.
  2. Diagnostic Testing:

    • Use diagnostic equipment to identify engine and vehicle issues.
    • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
    • Interpret diagnostic reports to determine necessary repairs.
  3. Repair and Replacement:

    • Repair or replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and fuel systems.
    • Conduct engine overhauls and rebuilds when necessary.
    • Weld and fabricate parts as needed.
  4. Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure all repairs meet safety standards and comply with regulations.
    • Test repaired vehicles to verify functionality and performance.
    • Conduct quality checks on completed work.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
    • Document parts usage and inventory to manage stock levels effectively.
    • Provide detailed reports on vehicle conditions and repair recommendations.
  6. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working on buses.
    • Keep abreast of industry regulations and updates affecting diesel engines and emissions.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental standards for waste disposal and emissions control.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably with buses or heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and industry advancements.

Education and Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE Diesel Mechanic Certification) is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and parts.
  • Comfort working in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and weekends if needed.
