Copeland Quality Engineer in Cudahy, Wisconsin

Based in our Cudahy, WI location, you will be responsible for quality performance, commodity quality, initiation, facilitation, and closure of corrective actions. We are looking for an accountable, self-motivated candidate to apply strong practical expertise using quality, lean, and problem-solving principles and tools to drive quality, delivery, and service improvements to our customers. Build, lead and manage quality actions and events to complete Root-Cause-Countermeasure (RCCM). Work with Production, Supply Chain and other department team members to identify and implement improvement initiatives.

As a QUALITY ENGINEER you will:

  • Ensure that products meet the organization and customers' quality and product integrity requirements.

  • Lead improvement teams to identify root causes of problems in the production process; recommend and/or implement corrective measures.

  • Analyzes data to identify trends in product quality or defects with a goal of mitigating and preventing recurrence and future defects.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to address process and supplier development through training, audits, selection, etc.

  • Conduct internal and external training or facilitation as vital to improving quality such as Supplier Corrective Actions (SCAR) 8D Problem-Solving Methodology, First Article, SPC, FMEA.

  • Supports the product development or operations team by providing analysis and expertise throughout the inspection process.

  • Ensures manufacturing processes align with federal, state, local, and industry standards and regulations.

  • Assure closure on supplier PPAP approvals, deviations, audit findings, and corrective actions.

  • Review design plans, processes, test procedures, and quality manuals to understand the scope, requirements, and function of the problem.

  • Assist the Purchasing Director and/or Commodity Manager in source selection and development, surveys, certification, and tool and component qualification.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years in a quality focused, manufacturing environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including delivering formal presentations.

  • Ability to problem solve complex situations & demonstrated project management skills.

  • High ability to analyze and interpret complex data, create reports and prepare succinct presentations.

  • Requires working knowledge with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

  • Certification in ASQ or the ability, drive and commitment to complete ASQ certification.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% to suppliers, customers, and other Copeland divisions domestically.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or a master’s degree.

  • Certification in ASQ (CQA, CQE), RAB, PE or certified 6 Sigma Black Belt or Equivalent.

  • Prior experience with one or more of the following commodities: steel, welding, castings, motors, machining, ASME coded pressure vessel materials.

  • A broad knowledge of various manufacturing processes.

  • Familiar with ISO9001:2015 and ASME standards.

  • Knowledge and expertise on regulatory (US & International) requirements.

  • 7-10 years practical, hands-on, quality and/or lean operations experience, including formal training in quality tools, problem solving techniques, knowledge in reading and communicating drawings (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance), in depth use of quality improvement methods, and a background in gauging concepts and techniques.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% to suppliers, customers, and other Copeland divisions both domestically and internationally.

Working Conditions:

This position works in a typical office environment with frequent exposure to the manufacturing production floor.
