Description
As a Materials Engineer within the Product Design organization, you will drive the development and maintenance of our materials specifications, which are the foundation of Apple devices. You will work in partnership with materials experts within the organization, supporting a group of Materials and Product Design Engineers in managing materials data through our database platform. Helping determine how it is used to influence and inform materials and product development decisions will be key. You will guide the successful implementation of new materials data workflows across the Product Design organization, supporting both tactical and strategic development of new features. This will include materials data management, database curation, training product engineers on use of the database, and providing data-driven analysis and insights. This role will also feature the creation of new tools and processes to facilitate data management and reporting, enabling new uses and deploying applications for data through collaboration with other Materials and Product Design colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications
BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics
Minimum 3 years experience in relevant industry
Effective written and verbal communication skills, providing technical expertise and updates on project milestones
High attention to detail, fastidious management of large quantities of details, process driven mentality to manage details and data integrity to ensure high fidelity and excellence
Demonstrated ability to independently drive multiple projects, setting priorities and deliver results
Ability to work with a high level of autonomy
Key Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
Strong materials fundamentals in process-structure-properties-performance relationships
Knowledge of different materials characterization and analytical methods (i.e. SEM, EDS, XRD, Raman, mechanical tests, etc)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use statistical tools and techniques
Experience using and managing an engineering database
Experience working within a product development process (PDP) and knowledge of engineering milestones and phase gates for design validation and verification

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $214,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
