Job Description

Job Summary

Provides direct spiritual care and support for members of all lines of business, patients, families and staff from all religious/faith backgrounds and belief systems for Molina Health Plan of Texas. Responsible for assisting patients and their families in understanding more fully life's events as they relate to their spiritual and overall well-being. Related to the patient's life experience, the Interfaith Chaplain may offer prayer or reflection as appropriate in a culturally-competent way, with great sensitivity to the patient's religious tradition or belief system, values, culture, and ethnicity.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Meets a member within the framework of their own background and belief system without prejudice or preference for any one specific faith

  • Prays with members via phone, televisit, in person, as appropriate; offer sacred writings needed to provide spiritual guidance/reinforcement

  • Meditates with members via phone, televisit, in person, as appropriate and offer meditation techniques

  • Maintains spiritual or faith-based conversation with members as requested

  • Serves as liaison between members and faith community/clergy for long term faith-based support/ worship

  • Reaches out to members either who are on hospice or who have a loved one on hospice, or who have recently lost a loved one or have been diagnosed with a terminal illness

  • Assures spiritual assessment of patients and families/caregivers in the hospice program and ensure appropriate services are rendered in a timely manner.

  • Facilitates the development of individualized plan of care by participating in the comprehensive assessment to meet identified spiritual needs

  • Works within an interdisciplinary team and assists in caring for the holistic needs of the person

  • Supports Healthcare Services team by participating in Interdisciplinary Care Team (ICT) meetings as needed

  • Provides consultation, education, and support to {the interdisciplinary group w/in Molina} on spiritual care

  • Engages with faith-based organizations to develop effective community partnerships and new strategies and resources to support members with the goal of supporting healthier children, families, and communities

  • Works with members of the Social Determinants of Health Care Management team to assist with locating SDOH resources via houses of worship

  • Recruits and supports partners from the faith-based community in efforts to strengthen, improve, or redesign systems of care

  • Tracks trends in various communities through the state to determine areas of opportunity

  • Builds capacity through partnerships

  • Serve as ambassador for Molina Healthcare of Texas at various community events as required

  • Maintains records of spiritual care services utilization and related activities for quality assurance, program development, and policies and procedures review and revision; Documents direct services and ongoing communication

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

Required Education: Master's Degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, pastoral ministry, spirituality, ethics or other related field OR a combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree requirement

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Spiritual Care, Ethics, or other related field

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Hospital Spiritual Care role

  • Experience with family and group dynamics

Required Licensure or Certification: Board certification by ACPE, APC, NAJC, NACC or CPSP required within two years of hire

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate within a matrix structure having shared responsibility for resource allocation

  • Experience with budget oversight

  • Knowledge of research in the field of spiritual care and professional chaplaincy

  • Knowledge of strategic planning processes and healthcare administration

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Working environment is generally favorable and lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. Must have the ability to sit for long periods. Pay Range: $19.64 - $42.55 / HOURLY
