The Transport Engineer provides network engineering and support for CyrusOne's network infrastructure. This individual will have the opportunity to interface with various departments within the company, as well as outside vendors. Additionally, this position provides an opportunity to guide personnel on all aspects of optical networking technology.
Essential Functions:
The Transport Engineer will be responsible for managing all aspects of Cyrus One's optical network infrastructure. Within this scope, essential duties include but are not limited to managing networks in multiple locations including on-going major deployments, installations, and capacity management. Day to day operational support including circuit turn-up, decommissioning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. Create and maintain physical and logical network diagrams. Model and maintain network equipment, infrastructure, and circuits in company database. Generate implementation plans for new deployments. Generate bill of materials to support appropriate equipment procurement. Ability to multitask and accommodate changes in priority in fast pace environment.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience with DWDM
Experience with optical test equipment and solid troubleshooting skills using OTDR, BERT, RFC2544, and power meters
Experience with BTI, Ciena, Cisco, and/or Infinera preferred
Proven experience in service provider and/or data center environments
Experience with field-based work in POPs, carrier hotels, data centers, and Central Office environments
Strong knowledge of industry-standard best practices
Hands-on experience performing installations
Experience creating rack elevations and other planned/install/as-built documentation
Experience create physical and logical network diagrams
Excellent problem-solving skills
Strong understanding of troubleshooting techniques
Strong project management skills
Mature organization and time management skills
Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills
Accomplishes tasks with minimal supervision
Experience working directly with vendors preferred
Routing/Switching knowledge a plus
25% travel required
Some nights/weekends required for maintenance in change management windows
On call rotation (1 week 24/7 on call, 1 out of 6 weeks)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time (when traveling to data centers)
