Ford Motor Company Product Development Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

The Ford Feature Systems Engineer position involves an ownership of features from first concept through development and into production. You will interact with cutting edge technology to enable home charging of battery electric vehicles and integration with customer's home back-up power. The ideal candidate is a self starter that has an endless passion for finding/fixing bugs and improving the customer experience. They must have great communication skills to lead a very large cross functional team to deliver the required functionality from end to end. • Execute a Systems Engineering approach to new feature design to meet customer needs.

• Lead the development of new features at the systems engineering level from early feature development to production and manage feature upgrade and migration plan

• Develop high level network, wiring and power distribution topologies / schematics / block diagrams

• Allocate features and functions across electronic modules and subsystems to meet cost, quality and feature performance targets

• Develop feature specifications, feature Failure Mode Avoidance documentation, feature verification plan, etc.

• Review existing system designs to find new opportunities for cost or quality improvement. Interact with program teams, core engineers and functional areas to create balanced solutions to competing requirements

• Develop relationships with cross functional teams and supply base to learn about the latest technologies and possible implementation

• Analyze complex cross-functional systems and implement innovative solutions

• Lead trade-off discussions with cross-functional teams

• Communicate complex systems, issues and resolutions in a clear and concise manner

• Utilize connected data & data analytics to develop a deep understanding of the customer

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related degree

• 3+ years of experience with vehicle electrical systems and/or features

• Strong learning agility

• Ability to lead cross-functional teams

• Strong systems thinking and analytical skills

• Excellent communication skills both verbally and written, with the ability to quickly understand and articulate complex issues

• Emotional resilience to negotiate cross functional trade-offs

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

• 5+ years of related experience in an automotive engineering role

• In-depth knowledge of Quality Documents (DFMEA, LFMA, and boundary diagrams)

• Functional knowledge electrical module design, networking, wiring, power distribution, chassis systems, lighting systems, etc.

• Electrical Systems Engineering experience including understanding of systems engineering V model

• Electrical D&R/testing experience

• Working knowledge of home electrical distribution & UI standards
