Position Summary
The Custodial Services division of Facilities Management is responsible for
maintaining the cleanliness of all interior spaces in various Academic,
Athletic, Residential, and Administrative settings with multiple
chemicals/solutions and equipment (i.e. vacuums, auto scrubbers,
sweepers, spot cleaners, etc.) Employees must understand and follow all
rules and regulations of the University of Denver and the Collective

Essential Functions
In addition to following the University of Denver's policies and
procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Properly secure all doors within the assigned area
- Cleaning restrooms, including toilets, sink, and showers; disinfect
the facilities daily. Restock necessary items (e.g. soap, paper products)
- Trash removal
- Replenish disposable products such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.
- Dust and wet mopping of hard floors
- Removal of dust from vertical and horizontal surfaces
- Cleaning of chalkboards and whiteboards
- Vacuum and spot clean carpeted areas
- Cleaning and sanitation of sinks, water fountains, and other fixtures
typically found in restrooms and other similar areas.
- Interior window washing
- Clean appliances
- Clean and maintains walk-off mats
- Relocates furniture as requested using appropriate moving devices
- Clean biohazard waste using the proper PPE
- Sweep and remove leaves, snow, and trash from entrances and steps of
building entrances
- Maintains the equipment in a clean and working condition
- Varied processes are utilized to deep clean carpets and other fabric
surfaces
- Various methods are used to refinish hard surface flooring

walls, and other hard surfaces

Required Qualifications
Custodians are required long intervals of standing, walking, bending,
and repetitive motion of hand-wrist and elbow-shoulder.
- Custodians must climb ladders up to 10 feet tall and balance.
- Operate various handheld, walk behind, and self-propelled equipment and
machinery
- Workers must push-pull, carry and lift objects of up to 50 pounds.
- This job entails working in small dusty areas
Must pass a pre-placement physical exam
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of related OSHA and EPA regulations and able to effectively
communicate rules to others
- A high school diploma
- Knowledge of safety protocols such as disposal of chemicals and other
hazardous material
- Work experience as custodian/ janitor or a similar role
- Working knowledge of industrial equipment and how to maintain units
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed
to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee frequently works in outside
weather conditions and is often exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and
toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works in high,
precarious places and is occasionally exposed to the risk o electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Activities
Moderate to strenuous physical effort is required. This job requires long
intervals of standing, walking, bending, and repetitive motions of the
hand-wrist and elbow-shoulder. One must handle or feel objects, tools, or
controls with hands and fingers; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders up to 10 feet tall and
balance. The job entails working in small dusty, dirty, enclosed areas.
Workers must also push-pull, carry and lift objects to 50 pounds. Specific
vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance
vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
