Our client is seeking a Data Center Capacity Management Specialist to join a
long-term contract opportunity to plan, coordinate, and facilitate data
center upgrades and infrastructure builds in a large enterprise environment.
Duration: 18+ months on contract
Location: Denver, CO
Onsite requirements: Hybrid
Schedule: 6a or 7am to 3pm or 4pm
Position overview:
Data Center Capacity Management Specialist is responsible for ensuring that a
data center has the appropriate resources and capacity to meet current and
future demands. This role is crucial for the efficient operation of data
centers, which are essential for businesses that rely heavily on IT
infrastructure.
Here are the key responsibilities:
Capacity Forecasting
Assess Future Demand: Predict future IT infrastructure needs based on
business growth, new projects, and technological trends.
Analyze Data: Use historical data and trends to estimate future requirements
for servers, storage, networking, and cooling systems.
Resource Allocation
Optimize Resources: Ensure optimal use of existing data center resources
(e.g., power, cooling, space, and IT equipment).
Balance Workloads: Strategically distribute workloads to avoid resource
bottlenecks and ensure high availability and performance.
Collaboration with Stakeholders
Work with IT Teams: Collaborate with system architects, network
engineers, and operations teams to understand current and future
infrastructure needs.
Budget Management: Ensure alignment between capacity planning and budget
constraints, working closely with finance departments.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Scaling
Plan for Expansion: Design and plan for the addition of new equipment,
expansion of data centers, or migration to cloud solutions.
Handle Upgrades: Oversee upgrades to existing infrastructure as technologies
evolve and requirements change.
Risk Management
Monitor Utilization: Continuously monitor resource utilization to avoid
over-provisioning or under-provisioning, which could lead to performance
issues or higher costs.
Contingency Planning: Prepare for unexpected changes in demand, such as
spikes in traffic or hardware failures.
- Decision Making
Implement Tools: Use capacity management software and monitoring tools to
track performance metrics and generate insights on resource use.
Reporting: Provide regular reports to leadership on data center performance
and capacity, highlighting potential risks or the need for upgrades.
Sustainability and Efficiency
Energy Management: Focus on energy efficiency to reduce power consumption
and cooling requirements, supporting green IT initiatives.
Cost Efficiency: Identify cost-saving opportunities through better resource
utilization and capacity planning.
