DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

About the Position

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has an opportunity for an Occupational Safety Officer in our Metro Denver location. If you have a passion for safety and an affinity for people, this is your chance to join CDOT Region 1's safety efforts. This position supports CDOT's safety initiatives, statewide Excellence in Safety methodologies, and acts as a safety resource to engineering, traffic, and maintenance employees. Come add value to CDOT's Region 1 as you conduct safety trainings, work site evaluations, incident investigations and, most importantly, help keep our employees safe!

Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Administers programs to identify hazards and evaluate the probability and severity of loss events and incidents.

Tracks and analyzes data from accident and loss prevention reports to determine causes and trends.

Prepares safety bulletins, trainings, and updates to share with employees.

Provides technical advice and support to ensure compliance in occupational safety and health laws, regulations, and standards.

Coordinates with leadership to address safety-related concerns and advance safety initiatives.

Interacts regularly with employees to evaluate work site safety, processes, audit patrols, and identify training needs.

Assists in developing job safety/hazard analyses and recommends changes to address field conditions.

Participates on the Incident Review Board and conducts incident investigations, including collecting information, compiling records, speaking to involved parties, and any necessary follow up.

Ensures employees abide by all safety policies and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment.

Attends all state, federal, and OSHA required safety training.

Assists with CDOT's emergency preparation plans and responds during active events.

Other job duties as assigned.
