OVERVIEW
Merrick is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Water
Practice in the Infrastructure Engineering Business Unit in our Denver,
Greenwood Village, or Loveland office of Colorado. Clean water is essential

equipment. The structural engineer will collaborate with civil, mechanical
and process engineers and other disciplines to best serve our primary clients
of local governments and agencies including cities, counties, districts,
and similar authorities in the development of water and wastewater treatment
plants, distribution and collection systems, recreation and whitewater
improvements on rivers, and other environmental structures and facilities.
Role
This position will consist of providing structural engineering services to
clients primarily in the water and environmental engineering industry. Work
includes design of new structures and evaluation and use of existing
structures, constructed of reinforced concrete primarily as well as steel
and other metals, plastics, and wood.
Engineering duties include but not limited to design, analysis and
evaluation of tanks, basins, pump stations vaults, buildings,
foundations, retaining walls, equipment support structures, piping
supports, access platforms, walkways, and other similar types of
structures. The Structural Engineer will work independently performing
mid-level to advanced engineering design on projects while receiving
supervision from a licensed engineer or the practice lead.
Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for supporting all structural engineering
requirements including the following duties:
Working independently or under a lead engineer to:
complete design of structures on projects using structural engineering
experience, tools, and software.
generate comprehensive and detailed engineering products, including
technical reports and presentations, calculations, specifications, and
drawings
create project-specific structural design criteria.
Completing projects and tasks within established schedule and budget.
Coordinating work with other disciplines and participating in
interdisciplinary coordination checks.
Leading structural design of facilities and small projects with multiple
facilities.
Having experience designing reinforced concrete elements and structures with
ACI 318 and with ACI 350 is a plus.
Performing inspections, observations, data collection (such as taking
measurements), etc. at existing facility locations and facility locations
under construction.
Working in a design team environment.
Understanding of project scope, schedules, and budgets.
Collaborating effectively with internal/external clients, contractors,
fabricators, and other partnering companies in a professional manner
conveying pertinent project information as required.
Generating comprehensive and detailed engineering products, including
technical reports and presentations, calculations, and specifications.
Collaborating and providing input to CAD technicians to create design
drawings.
Reviewing submittals and responding to questions from contractors during
construction.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET
accredited program required.
Master's degree in engineering is a plus.
Four to eight (4-8) years civil/structural engineering experience.
Professional Engineering license (or having FE/EIT registration with
ability to obtain license eventually) required.
Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work with high degrees of autonomy.
Must be proficient with Windows operating system and Microsoft Office
software.
Must have famili rity with conventional structural design codes:

ACI 318
ACI 350 is a plus
Must have skill and knowledge to convey clearly structural design through
appropriate and comprehensive detailing and technical content on drawings and
in specifications.
Experience in the following engineering software packages is advantageous:
Tekla Tedds, MathCAD or similar structural element design tools
RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, SAFE, ETABS or similar structural 3D modeling and
analysis tools
AutoCAD and/or Revit
Proficient in using structural software to model 3D structures using plates or
panels for finite element analysis (FEA) and interpret results is a plus.
Ability to travel periodically to client sites to perform site walks,
collect data, and attend client meetings required.
Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be
insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.
Local candidates preferred.
Physical Requirements
Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without
getting distracted.
May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
Requires the ability to visit industrial sites and construction sites for the
intent of performing inspections and observations that may be physically
demanding. These inspections and observations may be made at heights or in
confined spaces and may require climbing ladders and stairs.
