This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue
Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's
mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are
building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from
Earth to the lunar surface.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and
engineers, you will perform as a Structures and Mechanisms (S&M)
subsystem-focused Systems Engineer (SE). Products within the S&M
subsystem that you will support include vehicle primary and secondary
structures, landing and launch vehicle separation mechanisms, crew and
cargo support mechanisms, and thrust vector control. The subsystem SE is a
critical role in definitizing all components within structures and mechanisms
for all the Blue Origin's lunar landers through their design and
verification life cycle. The Structures and Mechanisms subsystem is a
hardware-delivery focused subsystem and the SE is expected to have relevant
hardware experience. You will be responsible for the subsystem level
requirements and accountable for all lower level component requirements.
Additionally, with Blue Origin's vision to enable crew exploration of the
Moon, subsystem safety assessment is paramount and will be a key aspect of
the SE role given its systemic reach and implication.
Relocation is provided to any one of Blue Origin's offices around the
continental United States, including Seattle, Los Angeles, Huntsville,
Denver, Reston, Phoenix, or Cape Canaveral. Interviews for this position
will include a technical assessment of systems engineering skills as well as
fundamental spacecraft structures and mechanisms understanding. Two S&M SE
positions are available.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Author, maintain, and configuration control all subsystem requirements.
This includes ensuring accurate traceability to the related both higher level
(vehicle) and lower level (component) requirements.
Maintain subsystem technical performance metrics.
Author, maintain, and configuration control verification and validation plans.
Author, maintain, and configuration control system safety content,
including fault hazard assessments (FHAs) and failure modes evaluation
criteria assessment (FMECAs).
Perform system integration activities within the subsystem, between other
subsystem, and between other business units for structures and mechanisms
products.
Coordinate trade studies and develop key decision criteria for those trades.
