Shire EMEA S&OP and Demand Management Lead in Dublin, Ireland


Primary Role

Owning and championing the EMEA regional Sales and operations planning (S&OP) and Demand Planning process. Leading supply planning discussions with Regional Supply Chain Leads, Region Commercial Heads and International Commercial and Finance Senior Leadership. Managing a team responsible for Demand Analysis in support of the EMEA region including preparation of monthly S&OP reports and presentations for the major product groups and EMEA region. Support the EMEA Region response to tender business by incorporating tender information into demand forecast. Partner with Commercial, Finance and Tech Ops leaders to perform analysis required for decision-making and long range planning.

This individual will be responsible for the timely completion of goals and objectives. The individual will be responsible for ensuring all relevant Supply Chain Demand Management and sales and operations planning systems are appropriately developed, maintained and improved.

Essential Functions


  • 40% - S&OP and Demand Planning Process & Senior Leadership Engagement: Owning and leading S&OP and Demand Management process in the four Commercial Regions (DACH, FR-BENELUX, Region Europe and EAMEA) that constitute the EMEA Supply Chain Region.Leading Regional S&OP process in 4 EMEA regionsLeading monthly regional S&OP meeting with Regional Supply Chain Heads and Senior Commercial and Finance leadership.Overseeing EMEA standardized Demand Planning process across 60+ marketsEnsuring strict adherence to Global Supply Chain S&OP and Demand Planning calendar.Ensuring continuous improvement through Supply Chain leader’s monthly feedback to each region, cluster and market.

  • 40% - Leading S&OP and Demand Planning team for EMEA that is responsible forValidating market forecasts through monthly analysis of historical and projected demand.Preparing monthly EMEA region analysis to support Global Demand Planning review.Representing EMEA region during monthly franchise pre S&OP meetings Analyzing and presenting the balance between service level, investment in stock level (MRB) and forecast accuracy during Regional S&OP meetingsEnsuring incorporation of accurate tender information into Demand Plans.Feeding Regional S&OP process with Tender analysis and flagging potential risksCoordinating with Center of Excellence S&OP and Demand Planning for EMEA: providing training and leading improvement initiatives

  • 20% - Cross Functional teams: Sitting on cross functional teams/sub-teams to resolve systemic and systematic network issues across various areas of technical and life cycle complexity that ultimately support product in the market where poor decisions impact brand availability and Shire sales.

Education & Experience Requirements


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain or equivalent.

  • 7 years of progressive experience in various supply chain management roles within the Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industries.

  • Advanced SAP user & experience in using various demand planning systems for example Kinaxis, SAP APO.

  • Recent pharma/biotech/healthcare industry experience (within past 3 years)

  • Previous experience working in a commercial supply chain position at a country or cluster level

  • Experience in managing teams in the international and dynamic environment


  • Knowledge of S&OP and Demand Management systems

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools

  • Ability to think “outside the box” and be well versed in Supply Chain

  • Effective written and oral communication skills are required to facilitate information flow across internal / external supply chain partners and senior leadership.

  • Knowledge of different aspects of regulatory compliance that impact a pharmaceutical supply chain.

  • Must be able to demonstrate analytical ability in supporting change within an organization. This could include systems, processes or tools to drive success

  • Able to recognize the importance of meeting business needs and balance cost, quality and customer service

Internal and External Contacts

  • There is significant contact with many different functions within Shire. This individual will be required to manage several different competing requirements at one given time and will specifically have to align on critical timelines with Shire IT, Finance and other functional Tech Ops leads to ensure business activities are being managed accordingly

  • Externally, significant interaction will occur with Shire employed IT consultants and other Service Suppliers. The management of external contacts will require strong influential skills due to a strong need for all external contacts to be fully engaged and bought into the process.

  • Excellent communication skills including presenting to individuals at different seniority levels are a must. This individual will be asked to prepare and present solutions to all contacts and senior management team members.

Other Requirements

  • This position will include international travel on an occasional basis to assure the Regional S&OP and Demand Planning systems and processes are integrated or implemented.
