POSITION PURPOSE:

Performs a variety of tasks for all business units including, but not limited to, processing of monthly closing journal entries, reconciling and maintenance of general ledger accounts, compiling information needed for auditors (internal and/or external) and working as finance liaison with department managers.

What you will do:

  • Actively knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, including the Guiding Behaviors and Caring Model Principles, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

  • Coordinates proper processing and accuracy of computerized general ledger operations, and the monthly closing and posting of all subsystems and transactions to general ledger.

  • Prepare journal entries for all business units

  • Create new income statement and balance sheet accounts in the general ledger as needed and update reports to reflect the newly added accounts.

  • Review and reconcile summary subsystem reports of payroll system with daily detail

  • Review month-end AP reports looking for invoices that should be reclassified as prepaid

  • Review detail by department for reasonableness of expense code and department number assigned. Make adjustment/correction as needed.

  • Perform research and/or investigate all reported or discovered variances requiring review, correction, or further information from management analysis/inquiry.

  • Maintain, reconcile and update monthly, the reconciliations of detail supporting balance sheet account totals.

  • Generate monthly financial statements.

  • Classifies, records, and documents all restricted, unrestricted, and Trustee Held Fund Account activity for both the Dubuque & Dyersville Foundations each month.

  • Work closely with the AP Coordinator on Lawson system issues related to general ledger or accounting.

  • Administrator for the Hospital P-card program. Train users on procedures for approving purchases and generating monthly reports on the website. Submit requests to Home Office to add/delete users.

  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university required.

  • Two years directly related hospital experience required with some supervisory responsibility preferred or four years of significant accounting experience required with at least one year in a position of supervisory responsibility preferred.

  • Computer Competency: Demonstrated experience and competency with Microsoft Office suite, Accounting specific software – SCIS Lawson; e-mail and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of the departments. High degree of proficiency in Excel.

  • Understanding of not-for-profit accounting and tax filing requirements.

  • Maintains a professional, collaborative work environment so as to foster a positive public image for Mercy Medical Center.

  • Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, Stark, etc.)

  • Provides a high level of customer responsiveness and serves as a role model to encourage a commitment to customer service. A strong service orientation is required.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relate to people across all levels and diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to handle interactions with discretion, tact and courtesy when dealing with sensitive issues and confidential information (i.e. financial/statistical data).

  • Keeps supervisor informed about important issues.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of organizational dynamics and administrative procedures and protocols.

  • Proven ability to identify, compile and present data effectively from many different sources for management decision-making.

  • Demonstrated experience and skill to work independently.

  • Demonstrated skill to meet multiple deadlines and deal with interruptions and changing priorities; demonstrated skill to prioritize and organize workload.

  • Ability to be able to detect and solve non-compliance and system issues.

  • Ability to lead and coordinate others in the activities of the department and to deal with outside auditors and departmental supervisors to resolve issues and ensure accuracy of financial information.

  • Able to make independent decisions to properly handle and resolve problems.

  • Must possess advanced analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of accounting theory and procedures.

  • Ability to use calculator and computer keyboard with reasonable speed and accuracy.

  • May be required to increase/decrease work schedule and/or vary hours depending on the needs of the department.
