Shire Business Excellence Specialist in Dunboyne, Ireland
This role will involve being a part of our Business Excellence team for our new state of the art single use multi-product biotech facility in Dunboyne, County Meath, Ireland. This facility will manufacture enzyme replacement and antibody-based therapies for Shire, the leading global biotech company focused on rare diseases.
The organisational structure at the site will be based on self-directed work teams where decisions will be made at the level where the data exists.
The Business Excellence Specialist will be responsible for execution of improvement projects and continuous improvement initiatives related to the Value Stream Product Teams. The Specialist will work across the site self-directed work teams and hub teams to identify and resolve issues in order to allow the site to achieve the strategic objectives related to Safety, Quality/Compliance, Supply Assurance (i.e. capacity, yield, fulfillment), and Value.
The Business Excellence Specialist will own the detailed execution of projects and continuous improvement initiatives related to the value stream and will also be responsible for their success assuring compliance with safety, quality, cost and delivery. The incumbent will recommend projects and initiatives that are in strategic alignment with site goals, manage risks & changes, and deliver projects/initiatives successfully.
Build safety as a value within every aspect of the value stream supporting operations that ensure sustainable EHS programmes that are engrained and deployed into each area.
Promote a safety-focused culture and collaborate with teams to utilise the lean methodology in their design of systems.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with legal, EHS and all Shire policies and procedures which are applicable to the site.
Develop personnel skills on site on the business excellence tools.
Coach and Mentor project leads to be effective in their Lean capability and continuous application and demonstration in completion of their improvement projects.
Develop and action effective communications to support the Lean program.
Collaborate as a strategic partner with teams ensuring lean strategy to achieve the strategic objectives related to Safety, Quality/Compliance, Supply Assurance and Value.
Collaborate and engage with the self-directed work teams and Hub Teams on a continuous basis to stay informed of issues faced and subsequently resolve them.
Support the creation of a high performing site organisation through implementation of a robust learning and development strategy.
Celebrate with use of proactive recognition tools that inspire teams and individuals.

Support the development and continuous update of the value stream map.
Support development and regular update of the site capacity evaluations to identify projects and initiatives that support site ramp up and sustainability.
Utilise continuous improvement tools, lean and six sigma methodology to identify improvement opportunities, perform technical troubleshooting and successfully implement solutions.
Support the implementation of site strategy and business unit strategy by identifying appropriate initiatives for applicable improvements to the value stream. In some instances support corporate initiatives and projects.
Identify the appropriate business drivers for each initiative, draft proposals and seek appropriate governance approvals.
Lead approved projects and continuous improvement initiatives that are in alignment with the site strategies.
Support detailed project planning including but not limited to schedule and resources and successfully execute cross functional projects.
Prepare timely project reports and communicate effectively with all stakeholders including reporting any potential project delays timely and provide mitigation plans to assure on-time execution.
Work with the Enterprise Schedule team to ensure the Lean training strategy is incorporated and the capability build is visible to support business needs.
Reporting of Value Stream Key Performance Indicators & Metrics.
Support the implementation of the Lean Management System.
Benchmark across industries to develop a best in class lean manufacturing environment.
Encourage new and innovative approaches to improve the value stream.
Utilisation of real-time data analytics for making decisions on the value stream improvement initiatives.
Engage in implementing innovative solutions that drive a high performance organizational culture that accommodates rapid growth and highly dynamic expectations ensuring attainment of site operational and development goals.
Create an environment of right first time in everything that we do through a focus on principles of lean, including simplification, standard work, visual management and a learning organisation.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Science or Engineering or Computing).
Certified Lean and Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Master Black Belt with a minimum of 5 years of business operations and /or plant manufacturing, engineering or quality experience.
Proven demonstrated process improvement success.
Demonstrated influencing skills creating a pull environment for continuous improvement and innovation.
Strong analytical/statistical problem solving skills, coaching and facilitation skills.
Proficient in delivery of Training, Kaizen workshops,
Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio, SharePoint and Minitab.
Proven ability in use of a data visualisation platform is desirable.
Proven ability around working cross functionally, focusing on meeting and tracking to schedules and embrace an interdependent working culture.
Knowledge and implementation of Lean and Six Sigma tools and strategies.
Experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry, (preferably both).
Basic financial knowledge. (e.g. small capital projects development and justification)
Strong operations support background ensuring value added contribution and oversight.
Experience working in a GMP/regulated environment is desirable.
Organisation Skills – Ability to manage multiple priorities and know when to escalate issues for resolution.

For delivery of the people strategy including recruitment, learning and development and organizational talent reviews collaborates with business excellence and HR teams to develop a high performing technical organization in Dunboyne.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver the site objectives.
For continuous improvement collaborates with Business Excellence peers across the Biologics business unit in Shire and through external forums to drive business excellence.
