Hourly Rate: $18.90

Workdays/Hours: Monday - Friday / 9am - 3pm with some weekends and evenings

This position is a generalist assigned to support Mature Adult programs at multiple Recreation Centers. The incumbent will help plan and implement special events, fitness classes, and recreation programs for mature adults.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, markets, and evaluates recreational and instructional programs.

  • Locates and obtains resources, recruits and orients volunteers, and coordinates with community agencies for program planning and operation.

  • Assists supervisor with training, assigning, supervising, and evaluating recreation activity leaders and volunteers.

  • Provides customer service to patrons by responding to questions and concerns, escalating issues to superiors as appropriate.

  • Enters patron information, program registrations, and fee payments into Active.Net recreation software system.

  • Supervises part-time staff, determines work priorities, and evaluates staff performance.

  • Maintains and prepares attendance and activity reports and other program documents.

  • Completes program and staff evaluation forms at the end of the program.

  • Addresses participant and staff needs and concerns and communicates them to supervisor.

  • Coordinates transportation for trips.

  • Completes accident and incident reports.

  • Collects payments, writes receipts, communicates payment information, completes daily cash reports, and maintains cash drawer.

  • Renders first aid in care of minor injury.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Recreational planning and provision of general and specialized recreation programs and services.

  • Aging process and special needs of maturing adults.

SKILL IN:

  • Interacting positively and communicating effectively with maturing adults.

  • Planning, organizing, and leading individual and specific group recreation programs.

  • Providing training and instruction.

  • Conducting evaluations.

  • Decision making.

  • Conflict resolution.

  • Report writing and record keeping.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalency (GED, HISet, TASC).

  • Two (2) years of experience in recreation or a related field.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

  • Valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED – with Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification within six months of hire.

  • Comfortable working with people of all ages, with disabilities, and from different cultural groups.

  • Experience creating and implementing recreation programs for mature adults.
