Senior Process Controls Integration Engineer

Position Summary

The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking outstanding engineers to develop approaches for process control of the FRIB accelerator and associated beamline systems. The advertisement will yield one hire as a Senior Process Controls Integration Engineer and we want you to apply!

The successful candidate will be expected to specify designs, documentation, and development strategies for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)-based control systems. The controls system used at FRIB is based on Allen-Bradley hardware and EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) open software tools. The candidate will be responsible for analyzing the subsystem requirement, propose technical solutions, implement the end-to-end solution, hand over to the operation staff, and provide continuous support as needed.

Candidates are expected to hold an advanced degree in Engineering or a related field. Candidates must also have 10+ years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. We are especially interested in candidates who are a nationally recognized leader in their field of expertise.

Major Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support installation and operations, and facilitate the work of commissioning and operations teams [25%]

  • Develop the architecture for controls systems and applications and implement the EPICS/PLC-based controls system [25%]

  • Implement and maintain PLC-based controls systems including required instrumentation [20%]

  • Provide continuous support and improvement of controls systems including the preventive maintenance and parts management keeping records of maintenance tasks and results [5%]

  • Interface with operations and commissioning teams to provide prompt support [5%]

  • Foresee any potential problem areas and notify line manager [5%]

  • Propose guidelines for FRIB EPICS/PLC-based controls system implementation to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and uniformity, and ensure adherence to the guidelines [10%]

  • Collaborate with the EPICS/PLC community to keep FRIB controls system up-to-date [5%]

Required Degree

Masters -Engineering or related field

Minimum Requirements
