Position Highlights
These positions are full time, Monday through Friday, first shift, 7:45 AM to 3:00 PM.
Selected candidates will be required to attend a 14-week hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development located in Cheshire, CT.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a Department of Correction facility or district this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the repair, monitoring and installation of electrical systems and equipment.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Repair and maintenance of:
Emergency generators and emergency lighting;
Fence alarm systems;
Perimeter lighting;
Motorized gates;
Fire alarm systems;
Emergency power/UPS equipment;
Cell door control systems;
Surveillance cameras and recording system infrastructure;
High/low voltage distribution system;
Equipment in both the kitchen & laundry areas;
Facility and cell infrastructure wiring;
Record of tool inventory/control;
Snow and ice removal; and
Supervising assigned inmates.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, tools and equipment involved in electrical repair and installation work;
Knowledge of principles and operations of electrical systems;
Skills
interpersonal skills;
oral and written communication skills;
Considerable ability to analyze quickly and accurately extent and cause of electrical malfunctions and failures;
Ability to
interpret and revise electrical wiring and schematic drawings;
plan, layout and schedule maintenance assignments and estimate costs;
operate and utilize computerized and automated control systems;
maintain records and prepare reports;
instruct others in techniques and skills of electrical maintenance work;
perform under stress and remain stable in pressure situations;
Supervisory ability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of experience as an electrician.
NOTE: Based on an individual’s technical experience, the length of credited service will be determined at the discretion of facility management.
One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the highly skilled level.
In addition to the checking of references and of facts stated in the application, a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be made before persons are certified for appointment.
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to danger of injury or assault by inmates and to the hazards and discomfort of working with electrical power systems.
