The Substitute Teacher for the SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start Program
in East St. Louis will
play a pivotal role in providing high-quality early childhood education.
Tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, the individual will
facilitate developmentally appropriate lesson plans, including
activities during Family Style Dining, and implement the adopted
curriculum tailored to young learners\' needs. Additionally, managing
classroom behavior, individualizing instruction, and conducting
essential screenings and assessments are key duties. This role requires
maintaining meticulous records, scheduling and conducting home visits
and parent-teacher conferences, and obtaining as well as managing child
outcome data efficiently. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong
commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating
learning environment for children.\

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Designs daily lesson plans tailored to the curriculum, incorporating
multicultural educational materials and activities in the classroom
and playground. Facilitates language experiences during Family Style
Dining, ensuring compliance with Head Start performance standards
(HSPS) and early Head Start program policies. Develops
individualized activities for students.
- Organizing the classroom according to developmental levels and
defined Learning Centers involves rotating materials regularly to
foster a dynamic learning environment. Reflecting the Creative
Curriculum study unit, maintaining a clean, safe, and clutter-free
classroom with labeled, organized, and easily accessible learning
materials is key. Additionally, facilitating the creation of
child-centered displays enhances the overall learning experience.
- Oversees classroom operations, manages behavior, offers training and
technical support to lead and assistant teachers, and organizes
appropriate activities for volunteer assistance.
- Engage with children consistently, whether in the classroom, on the
playground, or during transitional periods. Enhance language
opportunities and foster higher-level thinking skills.
- Conducts or assists with developmental screenings as assigned,
ensuring proper administration of the screening and accurate
results. Maintains and effectively uses up-to-date individual and
group checklists.
- Engages with parents on all classroom matters, warmly greeting and
conversing with them and their children to foster a strong
home-center connection and family partnership. Maintains consistent,
professional communication with parents through various channels
like phone calls, notes, and sending home activities that support
the curriculum and their child\'s learning.
- Conducts a minimum of two home visits and two parent conferences
annually as per the program schedule. Keeps accurate attendance
records, food and in-kind reports, and other necessary
documentation. Actively participates in center staff meetings,
weekly staffings, and Head Start program meetings. Identifies supply
needs and communicates them to the center coordinator.
- Performs additional duties as required within the scope of
responsibilities listed above. Pursues ongoing professional
development by attending relevant trainings, workshops, and
conferences as budget allows.
