Talbot County Government Inmate Classification Counselor/ Case Manager in Easton, Maryland

The Inmate Classification Counselor is responsible for delivering programmatic services that provide classification counseling and supervision to inmates committed to the Department of Corrections.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform a comprehensive Intake Assessment and periodic reassessments on all inmates to determine appropriate custody level, special needs/requirements and housing assignment. Assessment includes, but is not limited to Pre-Trial Release, institutional, educational, employment, social and family histories from which an individualized case management and treatment plan is developed.

Coordinate and participate in periodic classification review meetings of inmates on special security status/levels including those on administrative/restrictive housing, protective custody and those with special needs, i.e. geriatric, developmentally disabled, physically disabled, mentally ill, etc.

Conduct inmate orientation to ensure awareness of institutional rules and regulations as well as inmate program, service, work and treatment opportunities.

Serves as a Departmental liaison with other criminal justice and governmental agencies including the courts, States Attorneys Office, defense attorneys, law enforcement, Health Department, mental health providers, Social Services, Child Protective Services, the United States Marshals Office and other relevant public, private and faith-based organizations.

Determines through interview, investigation and evaluation an inmates eligibility to participate in various programs including education, internal and external work assignments, treatment, counseling and reentry and makes recommendations regarding same.

Responds to Inmate Request Slips regarding classification and program participation issues.

Assists the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Coordinator and ensures Departmental compliance with PREA Standards by conducting periodic internal audits.

Assists with the operation and administration of various programs as needed. Programs include Electronic Home Monitoring, Community Service, Work Release and internal Inmate Work Programs.

Assists as needed with the calculation of inmate sentence diminution, inmate release dates and the establishment and maintenance of inmate records.

Develop individualized transition plans for inmates voluntarily participating in the Departments Re-Entry program.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree and 18 months of professional experience in criminal justice.

Experience in the development and implementation and administration of remedial programs strongly desired.

Must obtain and maintain Correctional Officer certification pursuant to requirements of the Maryland Police and correctional Training Commission.

Proficiency with Current Office technology, methods and processes is required.
