A Day in the life of a Radiation Therapist Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Positions patient in accordance with prescription and verifies with imaging. Disinfects treatment surfaces as per policy. Uses knowledge to make appropriate clinical decisions regarding patient care/set-up.
Verifies all parameters are met and accurate as per treatment plan prior to treatment delivery. Delivers calculated dose to treatment volume in accordance to prescription. Observes patient for reactions, signs and symptoms of physical or psychological stress on a daily basis in accordance with departmental procedures. Verbally communicates with patient regarding their daily well-being and counsels patient as necessary on a routine basis. Ensures patient compliance with lab tests.
Records warm-up data in QA software. Records daily patient dosage in patient record and records treatment in machine log. Ensures laboratory test results are entered into the patient record and signed by the physician. Maintains and cleans equipment. Maintains an ongoing inventory of treatment room and department supplies. Calls vendor to open service calls and maintains service logs.
Performs quality assurance on linear accelerators/CT simulator and EMR as per procedures. Collects all necessary information for monthly PI meeting including indicator reports. Serves as therapist representative at this meeting.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Graduate of a JRCERT approved Radiation Therapist education program required.
2-3 years experience with Varian equipment preferred.
Ability to operate linear accelerators, conventional simulators, CT simulators, and Radiation Oncology computer information systems. Basic knowledge of physics and treatment planning. Experience with Varian equipment.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
Radiation Therapy License - R.T.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification - ARRT.
