Reporting to the Director of Compensation, this role will be a key member of the Compensation team, providing Comp support and advisory service for all existing and future Union contracts within HMH as they pertain to HMH Compensation practices. This role will ensure the regular updating of project plans and status reports, as well assisting in the timely communication with project stakeholders related to decisions, risks and issues. This role is an integral role linking labor relations, compensation and leadership to maximize the effectiveness of our bargaining agreements (CBA) and business. A key focus is the provision of timely, accurate, and relevant research and information to internal clients, including preparation of comparative analyses of collective agreement provisions and technical reports.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Senior Labor Compensation Analyst at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Identifies and analyzes pay practices on union contracts across all HMH entities and compares to practices of non-union team members.

  • Prepares compensation specification summaries for each CBA outlining when all increase, allowances, and any other compensation related item is due.

  • Creates and updates all side-by-side comparisons of all HMH CBAs.

  • Manages and processes all union off-cycle merit increases and ensure proper communications take place in a timely manner.

  • Collaborates with the rest of the Compensation team regarding on-cycle merit eligibility.

  • Manages and processes all union non-salary payments such as shoes and uniform allowances.

  • Audits and reports results to proper stakeholders of union team members to make sure they are in the right job code and all other attributes are appropriately set-up.

  • Compares and identifies impact between union and non-union team members from a Compensation perspective.

  • Establishes working relationships and keeps in constant contact with shareholders (Leaders, Labors Relations team, HR Operations, etc.) and is the go-to person for any CBA related questions or issues as it relates to compensation.

  • Prepares for union negotiations by preparing new wage scale models and other compensation proposals to be considered during negotiations.

  • Researches external market trends for the bargaining units and aligns labor relations compensation strategies to various external influences.

  • Reviews language in the CBAs, as it pertains to compensation practices, to remove ambiguity.

  • Collaborates with HR Operations department to discuss timing of negotiated payouts and coordinates communication to the Union.

  • Audits bargaining units to make sure their compensation is in accordance with their contract(s).

  • Works closely with payroll and HRIS to troubleshoot and resolve any errors/discrepancies in pay.

  • Identifies project concerns proactively and alerts leaders of potential issues.

  • Plans and schedules all assigned projects including monitoring and reporting.

  • Works closely with Labor relations during Mergers & Acquisitions reviews to identify compensation practices.

  • Assists and provides guidance to colleagues on compensation-related items.

  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in HR and/or Compensation, prior Union or Labor Relations project work or similar experience.

  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of HRIS systems.

  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude.

  • Highly analytical and confidential.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.

  • A high level of professionalism and outstanding business judgment.

  • Strong technical skills.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • MS in HR or Labor Relations/Industrial Relations.
