Here’s the scoop - Summary

The Nutrition Research Scientist is responsible for leading multiple concurrent projects for Champion Petfoods with a focus on commercial diet applications and fundamental nutrition. The incumbent will work with global research partners leading and collaborating on cutting edge nutritional based research to support CPF goals to help pets thrive for a lifetime. The Nutrition Research Scientist will formulate research diets and work with product development team to produce these diets. The incumbent will also identify further opportunities to expand and differentiate Champion Petfoods formulations that build upon our food philosophy and support the Champion Petfoods Missions and Values.

The Nutrition Research scientist is based out of our Morinville Research and Innovation (R&I) Centre and will shift over to our facility in Acheson once the team move is complete. This role will also occasionally work out of our Edmonton office and has a hybrid schedule between home and office.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Lead feeding trial projects including formulation of experimental diets, coordination with product development to create the diets, assist with the production of the diets, and act as point communication with research partners.

  • Communicate results of feeding research trials to product development team, innovation team, marketing team and executive leadership.

  • Communicate results of research feeding trials to sales teams, customer care and distributors.

  • Assist Veterinary Engagement team with attending veterinary conferences and engaging with veterinarian professionals in an exhibition booth setting.

  • Contribute to innovation, troubleshooting, and brainstorming ideas in a team environment for future platform growth in key consumer needed state areas.

  • The incumbent will continue to be aware of scientific advances in the areas of dog and cat nutrition through conferences and literature reviews.

  • Statistical analysis and interpretation of trial data Work as part of research team to develop and contribute to innovation and new ideas in a team environment for future platform growth.

What are we looking for?

  • PhD Animal nutrition, animal science or equivalent preferred.

  • Strong nutritional background and knowledge. Companion animal experience an asset.

  • Strong research experience (minimum 3-year experience). This would include study design, execution, collaboration, data analysis and dissemination.

  • Proficient in scientific writing and dissemination.

  • Strong written and presentation skills an asset.

  • Strong ability to work independently as well as a strong team player.
